i hate the whole 'take a knee' shit. every ball should have to be returned unless it's kicked out of play. just another example of the nfl fucking shit up.....
They're not going to cut Hill unless they're 100% sure he's a bust. Hill is always compared to A. Jeffrey b/c of their draft proximity. You see the breakout Alshon had last year? Well, Hill is clearly the the superior athlete, if he ever gets it that's the level of game he can bring for us. His problem was/is his extreme rawness. He had 49 career catches in college. Alshon was about ten catches shy of 3 times that amount. That is a huge difference when it comes to being ready to perform in the NFL. For everyone in favor of cutting Hill you have to understand that his measureables are on par with Calvin Johnson. There are very very few players in the league that you could say that for. Now can we say after only two seasons and 3 preseasons that cutting him in favor of a JAG is the right move? Unless he is really sucking dick in camp then I don't think so. I would be very surprised if he wasn't on the team.
The inability to catch the ball is the problem with Hill. I get the fact that he has insane measurable's but the guy can't extend his arms at all when trying to reel in a pass because it flops off his weak hands every time. Give him a perfect ball down the sidelines and he can catch it with his body. That's all good, but we don't have quarterbacks that drop in perfect passes at least not at the moment. Deep threats generally go up and get the ball because not many quarterbacks throw strikes 30-40 yards down the field. He can't contort his body at all to go get it and certainly doesn't extend his arms at all as noted above.
Hill learning to catch with his hands is more likely than Salas being able to run a 4.36 40. Just sayin.
What good does it do to burn a guy and drop the pass? His other problem is getting pushed around at the line of scrimmage so he doesn't even have enough time to turn the burners on. If he turns into a one dimensional streaker that'd be a positive for this team. I'm all for that happening but I don't see a ceiling higher than that but that's why he'll be a bubble 4th/5th receiver. He's also not the first guy to run a fast forty then struggle to put it on the football field and be able to accelerate past defensive backs in full pads.
You're right,he's got great straight line speed, but how does that translate to practical football situations? He's a long strider with little agility and not a lot of acceleration. maybe thats good for some go routes, but even that has its milage as theres ways of counteracting such plays. thats always been the problem with Hill, ON PAPER he's awesome, but in practice he's underwhelming. Theres no denying that he's a great athlete, but is he a good Wide Receiver? the unfortunate reality is that Hills measureables mean next to nothing if they don't translate to quality play on the field on a consistent basis. If theres another player on the team with more consistent form and hands, better route running and instincts, and better overall quality as an NFL wide receiver in this offense… well, no matter how good Hill is on paper, no matter how well he did at the combine, that man will get a roster spot over him. do we HAVE such a player is the question? has Hill turned a page where none of this matters is another. So far jury is still out, but the answer is coming very soon.
It's not just the speed. His agility scores are excellent and so is his jumping ability. He was only used for go routes because his route tree in college was very simple. He's from Georgia tech and was very raw. He had shitty qb's to help him early on. He had hands of stone drop issues. He had a poor first two years. He was labeled a bust and people wanted him cut. Who am I talking about? Demaryius Thomas.
Should have drafted Brandin Cooks instead of a bunch of JAG's. Idzik dropped the ball on getting WR help.
Nah I like the Pryor pick. If we gonna play that game I say the guy we should have drafted is Bruce Ellington instead of Saunders or Latimer or Robinson instead of Amaro. Or how about anybody instead of McDougle who ends up tearing his acl before playing one snap.
because Idzik can really predict who gets hurt or not… and before anybody says "but he was coming off an injury!" it had nothing to do with his legs did it? flukes happen.
Those are who we WANT to make. However Rex and company talk up Clyde Gates like he's the second coming. Decker Kerley Nelson Hill Saunders Clyde Gates It's unfortunate but it will happen. Clyde is KR/PR in this scenario
I agree, Ellington should have been the make up pick after going D in the first rd. I am just glad we didn't draft Lee.
http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=8412262&src=desktop For anyone who hasn't read this, it's a real good article on kick returns and player injuries. The general feel of things is that the nfl is going to push to remove the return for player safety sometime in the near future.
I wouldn't put much stock in whether someone is a KR anymore. That position is pretty much dead and buried.
D Rich maybe,.. But Powel doesn't have the straight line speed for the position I don't think. Moreover,.. the position as it is right now is becoming more about possession and securing the ball then actually getting consistent return yardage.
The Jets kept all 12 picks in the draft. What they got out of this is about a half dozen guys who will make the roster (Pryor, Amaro, Saunders, Dakota Dozier, Brandon Dixon and IK Enemkpali). Two of those guys are going to start at positions of weakness for the Jets in recent years, SS and TE. The other 4 will make contributions on special teams and provide much needed depth. It would not be surprising to see the Jets come out of this draft with 4 starters before all is said and done. The practice squad will be homegrown, young and hungry. It's precisely because things like the McDougle and Evans injuries happen that you have to avoid trading up. The Jets got talent and depth out of the draft this year and a real improvement on special teams. This despite having two rookies go down with season-ending injuries. The holes next year are not obvious yet at this point except maybe at CB. The Jets are nearly a complete team again for the first time since 2010.
