Decker Kerley Nelson Salas Hakim( mainly cuz of ST). Hope we find a sixth guy from the multitude of receivers that have burned us over the past week, or even the Packers. I would take the Benn dude tonight or Preston Parker from the giants. Saunders didn't look special tonight and the Jets can't draft offensive skill players, Enunwa was a ghost, Gates is a mirage and Stephen Hill wouldn't be worth a pack of gum in a trade. Ugh.
IMHO the fourth, and/or fifth and/or sixth WR is not even on the roster yet. Hakim will not survive, Saunders did more tonight practically on his first game than people with 3 years under their belt. I forecast at least one WR and for sure a CB coming our way before the season starts. I also think we might have seen the end of Simms as a Jet. May I add than hardly anyone distinguished themselves tonight to earn a spot on this squad.
I was hearing a lot of talk during the preseason that our depth was looking solid this year. Getting blown out in a game that was depth vs depth,it kinda shows the opposite. I know it's only Idzik's second year but it does not bode well for his build through draft/ youth movement mantra. We're supposed to have a team full of young, hungry, coachable players but to me it just looks like a bunch 4-7 rounders that will never find a solid job with a team. Looks like we will be upgrading our 3rd stringers with other teams throw aways before the start of the season.
There is NOTHING wrong with our scouting dept or scouting philosophy, and anyone suggesting there is is ignorant and doesn't understand you-tube.
The depth tend to look a lot better when you keep your starters in a little later than your opposition.
I never heard of McDougle before we drafted him, but could his consensus 5th or 6th round pick been due to his injury? If not for his injury would he have been a consensus 2nd or 3rd round? As teams improve and draft lower, the squeaky clean top talent guys with no off field issues or injury are long gone. So does Idzik take a chance on a top talent guy who was busted for weed, or injured lets say, or just go right to tier 2 guys who never had issues. It's kind of a tough question. Laverneous Coles is an example of a top tier player who fell like a rock after getting busted pinching a pair of sneakers. It's off field issues or injury that make top talent players available to teams who aren't picking in the top ten.
Most of the people who played significant roles for the Jets yesterday are going to get cut. They're not part of the depth the Jets have built, they're the people competing with the depth. 2 QB's played, Matt Simms and Tajh Boyd - 1 of them is getting cut and possibly both of them. 2 RB's got carries, Daryk Richardson and Alex Green - Green is getting cut. 8 WR's and TE's had catches, Chris Pantale, Clyde Gates, Jalen Saunders, Zach Sudfeld, Stephen Hill, Greg Salas, Quincy Enunwa and Saalim Hakim - 4 of them are getting cut, maybe 5. 3 safeties had tackles, Rontez Miles, Jaiqwan Jarrett and Josh Bush - 2 of them are likely getting cut. 4 CB's had tackles, LeQuan Lewis, Ellis Lankster, Johnny Patrick and Brandon Dixon - at least 2 of them are getting cut. 5 LB's had tackles, Jeremiah George, A.J. Edds, Trevor Reilly, Nick Bellore and Calvin Pace - at least 3 of them are getting cut. 4 DL registered at least a tackle, Kerry Hyder, Zach Thompson, Tevita Finau and T.J. Barnes - odds are all of them are getting cut, 1 might make the team. OL participation is harder to measure and several guys who played will likely make the team. The point is that for the most part the Jets cuts got outplayed by the Eagles cuts last night. That's what the 4th preseason game is - the last chance for a lot of guys to play on an NFL field.
from the 2 quarters i watched it appears that simms, richardson, pantale, sudfeld, salas, gates, should make it for offense.... for defense - oh boy - its not nearly as promising as the offense - miles looked active, lewis and patrick may stick on the PS, i was not impressed with any LB outside of bellore who was injured slightly, only DL i would keep is barnes.
Barnes might be the best player the Jets cut. He's had a good camp however he's a little fish (yeah, yeah, I know) swimming with whales at this point.
Richardson looked good,, Barnes looked good. But truly besides that I can not name another player who gave me the WOW factor. JMO
Anyone notice Holmes killing it the other night ,looks like he may have returned to form a little bit.I honestly thought we should have brought him back on a 1 year deal.He turned a short pass into a 32 yard td then had a 30 yard punt return
Wasn't really watching, just had the game on in the background. Sometimes a change of scenery does a guy a world of good.
There's another option for dropping TBoh - Pantele (TE) has looked good and you could keep him (so a 4th TE) and teach him some of the FB position as well and cut TBoh.
That's exactly why anyone trying to take anything at all away from the 4th preseason game for any team is just wasting their time. There may be about 12 - 13 guys that will make the Jets roster that played in a Jets uniform yesterday, and most likely less because the Jets may sign 2 - 3 guys cut from other teams that they feel are better then what they currently have. The only things I took away from that game were that the Jets should only carry 2 QB's, Hill flopped out in his last preseason chance with the team, and he Jets are going to try and stash away their rookie linebackers on the practice squad and see how much they can develop by next year. That's about it.
I'm disappointed in the showing of the reserves last night as well, but in the preseason game vs Cincy, didn't our reserves dominate? Sometimes teams have a bad night. Some of them may not pan out, and perhaps were bad picks, but it could also be a matter of poor coaching or players just not putting it together. The draft is a crap shoot, especially in the middle and lower rounds. Even something like 50% of 1st round draft picks don't pan out. At this point, I'm more willing to give Idzik the benefit of the doubt and blame the CS and players for last night's rotten egg.
