The 1998 team had the best QB, the best tailback and the best coaching staff - hands down. It's not even close.
Just put the 2009-2010 teams together with Curtis and 98 Vinnie and you arguably have the greatest team of all time. The 2009-2010 teams with Rex's defense, our OL and a big time QB would have a very hard time losing a game.
Close between 2010 and 1998, even though they were almost opposites in strengths, but I think 2010 edges it. 2013's will be better
Would have, could have and should have. That was one of Curtis Martin (and Keith Byers' et al) lousier games....fumbles, fumbles, giveaways.... The 47 yarder from horse teeth Elway to McCafferty over Aaron Glenn when the Jets were up 10-0 and in control of the game (and even after having blown opportunities to extend the lead) immediately 'swung' the momentum Denver's way and put them back in the game. This was an especially unfortunate loss because the Falcons were one of the worst SB runner up teams; a team the Jets would've comfortably beaten.
The 09 team mightve been better than the 2010 team. I kno people will disagree but the 09 team had a better defense and run game. The 2010 team won more game but if you look at Rex's philosophy, 2009 team was more solid. I think if Greene didnt get hurt the Jets might have beat the Colts.
This isnt a serious question is it? 98 BY A MILE.....Maybe a mile and a half. Im sensing some young'ns are skewing this towards the 2009-2010
Yeah this is not close, 1998 was the best Jets team I've ever seen and the only season I really felt Jets were winning a SB. We had a top 2 Qb, top 5 rb, wr and ol along with probably the best coaching staff in the league. Still pisses me off we didn't win that bowl.
I've got to go with the 1998 team. The disparity in quarterback play alone gives the 98 team an insurmountable advantage.
QB- Vinnie RB- Curtis, Greene and LT WR- Keyshawn, Chrebet, Holmes, Edwards, Cotch TE- Keller and Brady That offense would be incredible.
in 1982 we lost to the Fish right before Christmas on a long von Schamann field goal. If he misses that kick the Jets and Fish both finish 7-2 that year and the AFC championship game is in Queens. The fish just had our number that year That 82 Jets team was outstanding. Outside of the sack exchange you had McNeil on pace for 1400 yards
Hard to argue with this. I like Rex, but the 1998 staff was great, and the QB was a lot better. The 2010 defense was better, but not by nearly enough to make up for the offensive difference. Sanchez was so bad for most of 2009 that they're eliminated from the start. Though that offensive line and defense was the best out of all three of those teams, and the RB corps was deep.
Why not just be simpler and give the 2009 or 2010 teams the 1998 version of Vinny? Give either the '09 or '10 teams the '98 version of Vinny, and either of those teams are getting a first round bye.
With 98 Vinnie we definitely we get homefield advantage in 09. The Pats had an off year by their standards, that division was ripe for the picking but too bad we had a sucky QB holding us back.
'98 was the best over the course of an entire season. Could the '09 or '10n teams have beaten the '98 team in a one game playoff? sure but the '98 team was overall the best. We had an amazing coaching staff and collection of talent. Vinny had the best year for a QB I Jets history. Key & Chrebet were a perfect compliment to each other, Curtis was more of a decoy in '98 as injuries limited him but I believe he helped open the pass game a bit. defensively it was kind of close, in '98 we were not as flashy as '09 or '10, we didn't have any HOF players like we did w/ Revis but we had some playmakers and solid vets and great coaching. All the D's overcame key injuries- in '98 we lost Aaron Glenn, in '09 Jenkins and in '10 Leonhard but as much as I love Rex Bill parcells is a HOF HC. I think that gives '98 the edge.
