The Patriots offered him $4 million and we offered him probably the vets minimum, I can't believe somebody would actually be upset about him leaving.
And again, the Pats dominated, and won, that football game. Jets had everything going for them, but they just couldn't get it done.
I'm voting for Weatherford. Ellis paid his dues. It's not his fault Tannenbaum offered him the league minimum. That shit was insulting. We went where the $ was.can't blame him..it's just the $ came from our archrivals.
That's just dumb, he went where he was offered. If I was him I'd take the same thing. He was upset that this organization, the organization he always knew snubbed him away.
The Jets lowballed him and he wanted to stick it to us. Whether the Patriots offered him more money than another team would have is debatable. I could really give a crap if Weatherford or Woodhead went somewhere else but Ellis was an important part of this team for a long time and seeing him go to the Superbowl (where he never took us as a Jet) in a Patriots uniform pisses me off.
Why did Ellis deserve more than the vet minimum? You don't pay for past performance. Even after this year's infusion of youth on the DL, it is clear that the Jets need to get younger and faster at almost all positions. Ellis has looked like he was wearing cement shoes for a few years now. Tell me, based on his performance and his playing time this year, was he worth $4 million?
I never said he deserved more. Hey, He's been my favorite player here for so long, but I didn't really think he deserved to be here for too much more than the minimum.
I'm pulling for the g-men to win just because every time the g-men win the SB they TOTALLY tank the next 3 yrs and don't even make the playoffs. Once the dust settles we will own the big apple again for at least 3 years. But....if Ellis gets his ring, we should man up and congratulate him just based on all he gave us over the years. Good for him.
But really for us Jet fans it's a win win situation. No matter who wins, at least ONE team we hate will be losers!!!!
How can Ellis winning it be leading? I HOPE HE WINS IT.... Guy was a great Jet,,, not his fault the Jets showed him no respect with that BS offer. They got what they deserved,
I have no problem with any of these players getting a ring. I liked Ellis, Ihedigbo and Weatherford when they played here. Woodhead never really played for the jest except pre-season but he has sort of a Rocky underdog story as well. Good for them. I would rather neither the Giants or Pats were in the SB. But it is what it is. I have no grudges or problems with any of these players. I fail to see why any Jet fan would have any problem with them either. There really should be a 5th option for I don't care.
Giants MUST lose....Think about it : After all the trash-talking about how the Jets are at home while the Giants are in the Superbowl....blahblahblah... How satisfying it would be for us to see Eli, Coughlin, JACOBS(especially him), Weatherford(him, too) to come away from that game as LOSERS and come home with No Championship, No Vince Lombardi Trophy, No Ring....NO NOTHING! Those who lose in the SuperBowl aren't considered the Runner's up.....Only the final LOSERS.
How? Did Ellis make plays that led to the Pats beating the Jets this year? Did Ellis play this year except for spot duty? Would Ellis have played this year for the Jets except for spot duty? How does Ellis riding the pine for the Pats and getting a ring for wearing the Pats laundry for a year mean anything more than just that - he happened to be on the team when they won? He was not a factor this year and would not have been a factor for the Jets.
Agreed. Ellis gave the Jets a decade. Don't ever remember reading any drama about him during his entire tenure. Then w/ his career ending, he came up w/ the 2-sack game which helped a lot in last years playoff game. After everything he gave, the Jets low-balled him. Don't blame the Jets though because Ellis is close to retirement. Also, can't blame Ellis for grabbing the last big paycheck he can get before retirement. I'm really surprised any Jets fan would be upset @ Ellis getting a ring. He deserves one more than many Jets on the current roster.
You can't blame Ellis for taking the offer from the Patriots, but at the same time you can't call a guy who chose to play for the Patriots a "true Jet". The two are incompatible.
Thanks for the correction. I'm wrong to state there's never been off-field problems with Ellis. Honestly, forgot about it. Even with that incident, I'm still looking at his overall tenure w/ the Jets as positive. Ellis with a ring only makes me sad because I wanted him to get one with the Jets.
No problems w/Ellis His play was not significant and it was more about Bellichek sticking it to us. Same w/Woodhead and his 110% effort on every play. WE should've kept Ihedigbo and possibly Wetherford. All 4 could have a gripe about being cut, but only Wetherford has popped off about it, so the answer is Wetherford
