Well look.... The Jets offensive numbers were nothing more than as Cannizaro at the NYP said, "the numbers were damning". With all of the added talent JD added to the offense MLF actually got WORSE in scoring. Everyone knows the OL got really banged up, we lost Breece, Zach sucked, etc. but that still doesn't cover up the glaring inadequacies. I think MLF being gone is addition by subtraction. You can't possibly get worse than MLF was. And understand all eyes are on the offense now. Every Jets fan and Woody and HC and the GM want this thing fixed. They're talking about bringing in an OC with former HC experience. I just don’t believe this won't improve. This will definitely get better.....
I agree, except for "You can't possibly get worse than MLF was.". You can always do worse, especially in Jets World. That said, things weren't going to get better with LaFleur and that's the main issue. He was going keep pounding that square peg into the round hole until it fit by god. But please, by all that's holy, please hire someone with a proven track record of success as at least an OC if not also as a HC. Enough with providing OJT to another "up and coming brilliant offensive mind". Been there, done that, bought the t-shirts. And frankly, Saleh ought to have no say in who it is, although I know that's unrealistic, but really, what qualifies him to evaluate an OC or especially someone who can develop QBs? Let him remain focused on the "D", and let Douglas give him a guy he can rely upon to run the offensive side of things - which is why someone who was a HC would be preferable IMO. But I'm sure they'll go ahead and hire the next "genius" who has no experience, telling themselves how much smarter they are than everyone else.
This is one of the reasons that hiring a rookie HC from the defensive side of the ball is a trap. Improving the defense is always important on a bad team but not at the expense of a weak offense. You can't win if your offense can't score against good defenses. What you need in a HC is a guy who can fully oversee both sides of the ball, with enough authority that if he sees something dysfunctional on either side he can call it out and get the necessary changes made. The guy is not running the offense or the defense but he is a qualified check on problems on both sides of the ball. That leaves him in a position to do the things a head coach has to do, including time management, personnel decisions and enforcement of the team's code of conduct, both in-game and out. When you see a HC calling plays on offense or defense it better be due either to an untimely absence or because the unit is one of the best in the NFL and the HC calling the plays contributes to that. (See Rex calling plays for the 2009-10 Jets.)
I'll speak for the "old guys". We don't like Woody much but remember how happy we were when he bought the team. Under Hess, the team hit its lowest lows. We didn't even have a GM until the rest of the NFL had one. It wasn't until Leon stared death in the face that he became aggressive to win. Even then, his quick trigger to replace Pete Carroll with Rich Kotite will go down in the history books as the worst coaching change EVER. The only good thing was that it was so bad, he had to get Parcells here. Woody gets too wrapped in PR and ticket sales stunts, but he spends. The facilities and events at Florham Park are first-rate. He's certainly not in the bottom half of owners. I'd say middle. For me and others we are at a key point in Woody's ownership: Is he or isn't he allowing his GM to call the shots? Regarding him selling the team: Be careful what you wish for. The next guy could easily be worse.
Woody is the guy that said "You can never have too much Tebow." What else needs to be said? He's a menace.
Agreed. However, with Death knocking at the door, Hess did at least bring in Parcells. On a semi related note, when they put Mangold in the Ring of Honor earlier this year, I noticed good old Leon was in it. This having been news to me, I seriously stated, "What the fuck?"
I think Woody fucked this up. Again. Fuck him. What has he done right?????? He can literally go eat a bag of dicks.
And that's fine. I could blame him for chasing me out of the stadium after attending nearly every damn home game from '79 to '15. But I won't. I know the Mara's were equally complicit with the PSL scam. In fact, I think Woody tried to cash in on the GIANTS ticket wait list rather than his own teams supply/demand. Had Woody gotten the West Side Stadium he wanted the PSL fees he did get would seem like chicken feed. So, yes, F Woody. F just about every NFL team owner too. And, the biggest F goes to Goodell. Thank you very much.
I see this "move" as a terrible red flag. It means Woody the Rube is actively meddling again. BTW, I haven't quoted myself in a while and it's somewhat on topic: https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/woody-is-pissed-look-out.98546/page As usual, I did it just annoy @FJF. He hates when people quote themselves so that's why I do it. It's been way too long.
Woody Johnson Hero Worship ..wow now I have heard it all ...just incredible pathos He is the worst Owner in the NFL but whats worse is fans show up and fill a stadium on Sunday for that loser and con...how fuckin dumb is that haha I couldn't go...I would be too embarrassed to something that said Jets on my body 55 yeah of FEH...12 years with no playoffs Double FEH
Woody is a bottom 5 owner in the NFL. He doesn't have the malice of a Snyder or Haslam, but when it comes to IQ, he may have the lowest out of all of them.
For about 20 years that was true but unless Woody brings on a Parcells like figure Leon in the end was better. Even Woody’s successful start to his ownership was all built on Parcells’ foundation. Herm’s teams were built off that 2000 draft from Parcells and, as hated as he was, Bradway, who had history with Parcells and whom Parcells recommended. Then Tannenbaum (another Parcells hire) built (and subsequently killed) the Rex era teams. All of the Woody guys (Idzik forward) have been complete failures and the one guy who looks competent was hired when Woody was doing his ambassadorship.
This has got to be the most cynical, dumb post I've ever heard. If that's the way you really feel about it then I must ask WHY are you actually watching? Wouldn't you be much better served rooting for another team? Perhaps one of the other 31 owners would suit your very sharp critique? Then you can come back here and tell us all how the grass is so much greener on the other side....
lmao..who says I don't look at other teams Homer? And why do you care? BTW I am the Fan who was around 55 years ago and saw Namath give us a championship...so I am cynical but hardly dumb in wanting to boycott The Johnsons franchise
