Power rankings are fun diversions I don't put that much stock in them because not every team is what their record say they are for one thing. The Cleveland Browns are a perfect example of that. I can cite other examples of that....but naah don't want to get anyone's panties in a bunch. (-: That said If the Superbowl were being played next Sunday I don't think there is an NFL team in the league that would beat the Eagles team I saw on Monday night. Better hope the Skins are really that friggin' horrible...and the whole thing was an abberation or mine as well just give the Eagles the Lombardi trophy now and get it over with.
I would love to see our defense on the field against that offense. Revis would shut Jackson down, then Cromartie could at least limit Maclin. Vick seems to refuse the TE. If he has nobody to pass to, what will he do run every play? I don't know, but I sure would love to find out. Plus even getting absolutely destroyed, the skins still put up 28, so points can be scored on philly's defense. I think Sanchez and co. could hold their own in a shootout with Philly if need be. If we are in a shootout, I am trusting our defense to get the one stop needed to win the game when it matters.
I have full faith in the defensive genius that Rex is to put together the right game plan to stuff the Vick machine, especially in a super bowl game
Michael Silver has us no. 1 altho I don't think he really takes himself seriously http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AtEvZiCYj4u_1wYC689YAx05nYcB?slug=ms-32questions111710
I also thought the Eagles looked awesome. Regarding power rankings, it depends what they are based on, but I have no problem with them being skewed toward recent finishes. They are supposed to be about how a team is likely to do this coming week, compared to the rest of the league. That being said I don't necessarily agree with people here who say no way the Pats could be rated higher than the Jets because the Jets beat them. Yeah, several weeks ago. I would feel much better about them, and hopefully will, if and when the Jets beat them in Foxboro. Having said that, maybe they just match up well against the Squealers. They sure got crapped on by the Brownies, who are better than their record, but not good enough to have beaten the Jets at home. Interesting that Harrison's description in the pre game show about how to beat Brady sounded like the Jets. Man coverage on the wideouts, leaving the rest of hte secondary to deal with TE's, and hopefully some pressure on Brady. But right now you'd have to say the Skins suck pretty bad to not see that Eagle performance as awesome. Vick can be taht effective in the pocket? Just wow...
you want to ignore the jets win in week 2? don't agree, but ok, i could see your point... BUT...how can you overlook the fact that the Pats lost to the browns by double dgits and the jets just beat them in consecutive weeks? The "power" rankings are a joke...
i have said the eagles are the best team in the NFC for awhile, but they won't play like that every week. it's not like vick just got there or they added any new players in the past couple of weeks. he's not unstoppable.
just think if the NFL relied on power rankings to decide who plays in the SB (think BCS). when the jets have an off year and are in the bottom half of the rankings, the the rankings mean shit and should be ignored. when the jets have a good year and are consistently in the top 5, then the rankings are awesome!
Power rankings aren't totally meaningless. The team that ends the season #1 has won the superbowl. They just don't portend the future.
any power ranking ranking the patriots over the jets is stupid because the jets beat the pats and they beat them by a big margin
Agreed as to the Packers especially since totally shut us out just a few weeks ago. Pats have absolutely no business being ranked ahead of the Jets since the Jets beat them by 14 pts and b/c the pats got shellacked by the Brownies just 2 weeks ago. Then again, who GAS? its just power rankings.
