I hear you...But in truth Odell more than likely would not have had the same success here for 2 reasons.

    1) Eli is a vet and fits Odell's skillset
    2) Eli and Odell have been working out together since Odell is in high school. They had the super rare and instant timing from jump street.

I'm not unhappy with the Devin Smith pick... but ims till yet to see any evidence that he can be some Desean Jackson type or some "monster #1 WR".

i dont see plays with him taking bubble screens and making people miss. i dont see plays where he creats something out of nothing. he certainly has excellent hands, and can beat his man deep down the field, which is something we could really use. but i dont see any of the jackson comparisons or anything like that. and ive looked long and hard trying to find it and watched several full games from last year

i remeber him missing a few wide open deep throws. he had one sure touchdown to decker who was completely uncovered 40 yards downfield and he overthrew him by a mile

anybody who moans about that knows zilch anyway, so whatever.

Kerely is the veteran inside route runner on an offense with 3 starting WR's who might be massively useful next to Decker and Mashall, of course he gets more time. its not Kerely that Devin has to pass anyhow, Smith isn't exactly an inside guy, he's a flanker slot receiver at most, his value lies as a split end making plays along the sideline.

Right, I'm liking him more and more. I don't care about how he compares to Jackson either, gimme a break.

We'll have to be patient tho. Especially if Geno's the starter. Geno most likely will have to build confidence with Marshall and Decker first, unless there's some kind of immediate chemistry between Smith and Geno.

Unless Geno improves we may not see how good Smith could be ideally right away

He did....But I think as fan we need to somewhat forget the last 2 years....Geno was put in a terrible position, with limited to no weapons and a poor system fit from day 1.

You're asking Jets fans to forget ( how about forgive?) bad quarterback play!?

I'd need to go to confession twice for the things I said at the TV during last years Bills/Geno's meltdown game :p

Yeah you're right. The team philosophy before wasn't one that was conducive to the quarterback growing. The Jets really needed a veteran QB who could act as much a coach as a quarterback under Rex, and he never had that. It's a shame really.

With that being said, with Geno on a rookie contract, might as well take a second stab at him before looking elsewhere. At least there is still upside there, which you can't say for Fitzpatrick, even if Fitz ends up being the better QB and starting QB by the end of the year. Can't win the lottery if you don't play it.

I'm not saying reacting to it as it happened shouldn't happen...Course it should...I was right there with you.

All I'm saying is entering 2015, I think we need to take the situation into account more than the past results simply bc situation and weapons make or break young QBs...So let's see what he does, given the changes. If he faceplants this year the verdict is officially in IMO.

    Exactly.

And yes, it's really mind boggling how the Jets found ways to put Geno is the likely worst position possible.

    I'm pretty hyped.

I'm tempering my enthusiasm because he will be the number 4 WR, and maybe the number 6 option on offense (Amaro and RB).

But he is the deep threat that the Jets have needed. He is less the physical specimen that Hill is, but he is actually a WR. He can catch and he knows how to track the deep ball.

alot of qb are put in terrible positions. not all of them finish as bottom 3 QBs like geno did and turn it over consistently.

QBs are defined but how the can come through when the protection isnt there, the D isnt doing you favors, and recievers arent great.

Really? BC typically when rookie QBs (even the most talented) are drafted into horrible systems and have no supporting cast they never even come close to reaching their potential and bust.
