    Stephen Hill in 2013
Although the "threat" part was the threat that he wouldn't hold on to it.

Smith is the anti-Stephen Hill. All Smith did was produce and make some amazing catches in college. His combination of gamebreaking speed, high pointing the ball and very good hands should make him a fan favorite even in year 1 IMO.

I never like to get too high on any draft picks, but the Jets for once in what seems like forever, actually took guys who showed major production at the college level and were highly thought of on almost everyone's draft boards. I don't want to get too amped up until they get on the field but it truly is an exciting time to be a Jets fan.

I think people are excited about Smith but deep down think of our last 2nd round WR Stephen Hill and are being cautious.

    I'll say it now.

Stephen Hill and Devin Smith are not even remotely comparable players.

Get excited about Smith Jets fans.

He's the closest thing we've ever seen to a DeSean Jackson and Mike Wallace in the far reaching past. He's what we've wanted for quite a while and there are big plays coming from this kid.

the problem with Hill was never his physical traits.

The known issue with him entering the draft was that he didn't understand the route tree and couldn't catch footballs. Kind of tough to be a productive NFL WR if you can't do those two things.

as Jets fans we loved the idea of Stephen Hill, but never loved Stephen Hill himself.

The problem with Hill was he was downright awful and the definition of the word project. He and Devin Smith have absolutely zero in common when it comes to football ability.

agreed!! he was a player who we drafted too high based on the hope of what he would become, not based on actual film. It was a terrible pick for high second round.

Hill in no way is even remotely comparable to Smith.

Until he's done something in the NFL there's no reason for there to be any hype around him.

I'm unclear on exactly why we would want Devin Smith to be "hyped".

Would it help solidify us as champions of the offseason?

How about we let him catch a pass first, then hype him?

No one said he couldn't catch footballs. He just happens to be a body catcher, pinkies rather than thumbs together.

    http://rotoviz.com/2015/03/devin-smith-we-know-he-is-explosive-but-this-is-outrageous/

Targeted only 45 times during the season.

Came up huge in huge games. (Wisconsin is still smarting from the abuse he gave them)

    Averaged over 20 yards....PER TARGET.

    28 ypc.

    45 targets, in 13 games.

still caught most that were you know...actually catchable...

Tough one considering Geno could possibly be benched. I'd say O/U 5.

It's like the Chrysler commercial: deep threat, deep threat, deep threat! Dang! I said it three times and it's still not true! No defense in it's right mind is going to consider D. Smith a deep threat until he actually burns a few. Until then defenses will deploy against the Jets exactly as they did last year. Stop the run and make Geno beat you with his arm. So, whether D. Smith is the deep threat we hope he is, will depend entirely on what G. Smith does this season.

Pro backs aren't going to wait either.

Half those balls would be ints. in the NFL.

Devin Smith's strength at OSU was stretching the field. Stephen Hill's strength at Ga. Tech was his blocking in a no-pass offense. Night & day.

Where's the hype for Devin Smith? Why don't you ask Geno Smith that question.....How can anyone be excited when Genos still under center when he isn't skipping meetings for the movies

We need a deep threat so bad. I'm hoping Smith is the guy. Love his speed and that yards per catch production at OSU is just freakish. There is some good defensive backs in the big Ten too which makes it even more impressive

The scary thing is, Smith can be a bust, though I don't believe he will be, and still help this team enormously. Defenses will have to account for him as a deep threat, so if he just runs go routes, he'll be freeing up space for Decker, Marshall, Kerley, and Amaro.
