I'm really excited about Smith. Really believe that he's a compliments our receiving corp. Like others have stated, I am concerned about our QB's abilities to get the ball to him.

What we have seen, on a fairly consistent basis, is that Smith can throw the ball very far. His arm strength is not (and never has been) a question. However, what we need to see is if Smith can consistently complete deep passes. It's not a question of arm strength, but accuracy on the mid-range/deep and deep throws. It isn't out of the realm of possibility for Smith to throw like Wilson does -- anticipation throws with high arcs so that receivers can run under it -- but he'll have to work on it. Still amped to see how this all plays out.

I seem to remember that ball placement was a concern in his draft analysis.

Hey...heave it downfield. It's like a long punt.

Smith and Petty were two players I wanted the Jets to take. I watched Williams alot in college and he is a sold player but I agree with you I wanted one of the WR's or pass rushing LB's. I guess I'm numb to the Williams pick because I didn't expect him to be there at #6. Now I have wanted a WR that could blow pass CB since Wesley Walker and I'm hoping Smith will be that guy. It will open up everything underneath for Marshall, Decker, Kerley and Amaro.

Kinda hard to throw the ball when you're holding a clipboards on the sideline. That's Geno's future 3rd string clipboard holder.

If we took White in the first Macc may have jumped the gun and taken Petty in the 2nd.

All I know is when Williams was there in the 1st, it pushed our whole draft back a round.

What makes you say that, considering we took mauldin over him in the 3rd?

I don't think he's particularly good at throwing any type of ball. But that's not unusual when you're the worst QB in the league.

He's the most talented receiver we have had since Meshawn and has a good chance of being truly elite.

I thought of Walker as soon as I read up on Smith. Similar measurements too. From what I read his best skill is adjusting to the deep ball. Lots of guys can blow by corners; what can they do when the ball's in the air and the CB is bearing down on them? Everything says this guy knows what to do and wins most matchups. Might be the first Jet since Santana Moss who can do that and he's much taller. Best case scenario is a career comparable to Walker. Barring injury I think his floor is a pre-Miami Mike Wallace. Can't wait to see him against a big CB like Sherman. It's gonna be fun to watch.

    I think Macc had WR#1, OLB#2, Petty#3.

But when Williams was there, it pushed everything back a round. It was probably close between Petty and/or Mauldin and Macc was thrilled when he got both.

Over. That's not really the question...

The real question is, does his dragging a safety off the top of the defense, Help Ivory,Marshall, and Decker, and Amaro....keep moving the chains...

I'd like to see Smith have a season where he isn't consistently waiting for a ball to actually catch up to him.

Go back. Watch that highlight reel. At least 4-5 times in that reel...he has to stop, wait for the ball, and get's tackled short of the EZ.

I would like to see a season where Geno has enough time in the pocket to set his feet and throw the deep ball without 2 defensive lineman running free in his face.

The thing is Oline was a far worse need than WR in the draft and we failed to address it.

There should be no hype, he's done nothing to warrant it.

I'm looking at Geno's 13:13 TD/int ratio and Fitzpatrick's 17:8 and I can't help wondering if we made the wrong choice. But that's for another thread.
