To take it to another level: Every year after his first season that Tony Romo has started, if he's started 16 games he's thrown for over 4000 yards. He can move the football. Mark Sanchez has never passed for over 3500 yards in a season. Romo has never had a negative turnover to TD ratio. Sanchez has had a negative turnover to TD ratio in every year he's played except 2010. Every year after his first season that Tony Romo has started, if he's started 16 games he's thrown for 26 or more TDs. Mark Sanchez has thrown 26 or more TD's just once (2011). Romo averages one fumble (not lost) every 2.3 games. Romo is actually a much better QB than Sanchez.
there's no shame in being a worse qb than Romo. despite what the media will tell u, romo is a great qb arguably the best in the league and superior to Eli in every way. Just like sanchez, he suffers from the lack of Oline protection, poor play calling, and inconsistent WR play. they are very alike in that they are intuitive, momentum players who make positive yardage out of broken plays. They are not the prototypical call the right audible at the line study the playbook to have the offense lined up just right qbs. They are both gun slinging, riverboat gambling, drawing it up in the mud, hot dog qbs. And the media hates that so they both get demonized. Romo is top 3 and Sanchez is top 15.
Sanchez had a negative turnover ratio his rookie year and thats it. Romo is a better QB than Sanchez but you don't have to lie to support your case. He has played 3 full seasons. He threw for 26 or more TDs just once? He did it last year in his third year.
I'll take Cam Newton's pouting and 4700 yards of offense over Sanchez's pouting and 4700 turnovers any day of the week.
This season Sanchez has 11 touchdowns and 13 turnovers (plus 5 other fumbles that the Jets recovered.)
This season is not over. Also he has 11 TD 9 INT and 7 fumbles. 5 recovered by the Jets so thats 11-11. Thats awful statistically and makes its own case without having to lie about the numbers.
Give me a break. Cam Newton has been terrible this year. He has more turnovers and 2 more TD if you count the rushing. Mark has at least won games in his career. Cam had a great rookie year but has been flat out awful this season.
How many teams would trade QBs straight up for Sanchez? Maybe the Jaguars and the Chiefs. That's about it.
The four things that keep Mark in the bottom rung of QB's. 1) Poor accuracy, Sometimes I think receivers drop the balls that hit them in their chest, or in stride, due to surprise. 2) Poor pocket awareness. He doesn't feel pressure very well. 3) He's slow to recognize coverage and when the receiver has the advantage and will become open. He often doesn't throw until it's clear the receiver is open, by the the defenders have usually recovered. Great QB's see their recievers about to break clear and have the ball on the way as the receiver is breaking clear. 4) He has a slow delivery, which contributes to all of the above.
That said, There's very few QB's I wouldn't trade him off for, but good luck getting the other team to take him I definitely would not take Cassell, Gabbert, or any QB over 31 years of age.
sanchez year 1: 13 touchdowns, 23 turnovers Sanchez year 2: 20 touchdowns, 16 turnvoers Sanchez year 3: 31 touchdowns, 26 turnovers (led NFL) Sanchez year 4: 11 touchdowns, 13 turnovers. so in 2 of 4 years he has had more turnovers the touchdowns and in one of the other seasons he led all off football in turnovers. he has been an awful turnover machine and a bottom 5 qb every season. it isnt debatable
Not sure where you're getting your numbers from, but according to NFL.com Sanchez has 11 td, 9 picks, and 9 fumbles (4 lost.) Newton's "flat out awful" year has still been better than Sanchez. Newton has about 700 more total yards than Sanchez, with more touchdowns and the same amount of turnovers (again, using the NFL.com #s.) Plus, his completion % is nearly 4 full points higher. Considering that Newton had quite literally the best rookie season of any QB in football history, I like his odds of bouncing back from a sophomore slump a hell of a lot more than I like Sanchez's odds of finally having a season even close to Newton's '11 effort in his 5th year in the league.
But if it's right now, Sanchez and Newton are playing at the same level. And if Cam is having trouble with the CAR media, oh boy NY will be a surprise for him. But realistically, Cam has a better future, but right now he isn't playing better and has also had key turnovers late in games just like Sanchez.
Why is this a discussion - regardless of who is better than who, which Romo is clearly superior, Mark has never had what romo has had. Not once ever. No even close. The Cowboys' offensive weapons make the Jets' look like pop Warner. This is truth.
