I think it is far too easy to pin the Kendall thing on our lack of success this season. While things may have been marginally different this year had he been part of the line, I really don't think it would have made a tremendous difference. What's the big deal whether you end up with 3 wins vs. 6? Kendall was on the downside of his career and he was a locker room whiner. The whiner part is not being a professional at any level, IMO. I think the Jets did the right thing to let him go and the fact we got a 4th round pick for him, so much the better. Part of this fall-back year is that it has given us an excellent opportunity to micro-analyze our full array of problems. I think the picture and the plan for the off-season becomes infinitely clearer as a result. I really worry how we are going to address NT though.
Bottom line is , you don't get rid of a player , unless you are bringing in someone is as good or better. We didn't do either in bringing in a replacement. Bender :rofl:

It's pretty simple. The CS thought that Clarke was an adequate replacement for Kendall. They were wrong. However, I believe that trading Kendall was an acceptable gamble based on everything surrounding the situation.
1.The Jets were honoring the contract. It was Kendall who wasn't honoring the contract. This is a trend with players these days. They're not interested in honoring contracts. The Jets made a statement as an organization here. Other organizations should do the same. 2.It makes more sense than paying a 30 plus year old guard and extending him. How are the Redskins running the ball? Is this guy making the Pro Bowl? Didn't think so. 3.First, Samuel is an up and coming cornerback in his prime. For him to ask for such a thing and for a team to entertain giving it to him is a little bit more reasonable. What the Jets did was smart. You can't have a divisive locker room. The Jets have a young roster, and like it or not, this is a rebuilding team. The last thing you need is a poison veteran. There are vets like Laveranues Coles who know when to open their mouths and there are vets like Kendall who two coaching staffs have deemed a poor attitude guy. 4.The impact Kendall had was completely overrated. His influence didn't do much for D'Brick last year when, late in the season(after a whole season of "mentoring") he got tossed around by Aaron Schobel. Guy was an abject disaster. If you ask me, he's improved. Moore went from terrible to just less than average. Was Clarke a downgrade? Yes, and it's probably effecting Mangold. That said, the idea that one guard has been the reason our entire season is in the toilet is absurd. The guy is a league average guard, and as mentioned, you don't allow under contract players to capitalize on an inflated market, particularly when they're old and in decline. That was so obviously the case here it's not even funny.
Quite true; I have to chalk up what happened as a young coaching staff way over-valuing the personnel we had on our offensive line. I think they may have learned a lesson. Their moves in the off-season will be evident of that.
Bottom line is this: You don't get rid of a player when you have no adequate replacement on the roster... This is ESPECIALLY true on the offensive line, as one weak link can make the whole unit falter... Not only did we not have an adequate replacement, but we tried to plug in a 6th round rookie OG with very little pass-blocking experience in to his spot during preseason... And then, even more ridiculously, deactivated that same player, and plugged in Adrien Clarke, who got very few first-team reps in TC and preseason, and never looked back... The situation was handled embarrassingly, and it's come back to bite us in the ass Not to mention the fact that this team has VERY LITTLE veteran leadership... Say what you want to say about his not being a 'Mangini guy' and being a malcontent, but he, like Laveranues Coles, was a lockerroom leader, not cancer, and was the only veteran OL we had with any sort of credible experience.... I said it then and I'll say it now, letting Kendall go without having a clear, veteran replacement, was a foolish, foolish move...
This season looks like God almighty has been pulling all the strings of the Jets puppets, anything and everything that could go wrong , has. I may become an atheist.
Why don't we give McCariens an extra million to drop passes, how about giving an extra million to Clemens or DBrick or DRob or why not hand out 53 million in bonus money 1 for every player? How about Kendall gladly excepting more up front money the year before and living up to the deal he made? I get it Kendall makes us competitive with the Pats how could Tannenbaum and Mangini be so stupid. Gibbs was a genius giving us a 4th for Kendall he made the skins an instant SB contender by beefing up their OL.

That was the Bradway/Herm era who did that... we tried to trade him... no one wanted him... and the cap hit would have been to big to cut him... You don't give malcontent trouble makers more money when they start their crying because you'll pay the next malcontent troublemaker even more
I'm right here - and I'm more than happy to admit I wanted Kendall gone. Do you think Pete Kendall was that much better? He's a solid player - but a guy like Richard Seymour would chew him up. We needed to upgrade the position. Kendall used his position to try and force an issue - and he did it in the media. I do not like how he handled the situation. The question isn't whether Kendall should be a Jet - the question should be why we didn't get a better replacement...?
