Sorry I missed the Madden beaning! You can read more about the festivities that during that winter wonderland at Shea here: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=291607&postcount=47 TBTF
This ain't good. Orange Bowl, 1973. Fish 31 Jets 3. Boring as hell, hot as hell, and no Joe to throw... And I missed the pillow fight on the plane ride back up...
11.21.93 Jets 17, Bengals 12 12.17.00 Lions 10, Jets 7 12.16.01 Jets 15, Bengals 14 12.26.05 Patriots 31, Jets 21 (I have attended six preseason games. First one was in 1986.)
Dec. 2002 when we destroyed the Packers to get into the playoffs. You could have cut the excitement in the air with a machete when we found out that all we needed was a win to get in. And we did. Best. Game. Ever.
Man this is great reading all these responses...From 1966 to today...Great stuff and awesome stories... My 1st will be Sunday!
The Jets won 34-0. Namath was 7 of 12 for 94 yards and one touchdown. He played three more games with the Jets: 16 of 36 for 176 yards, 1 TD, 5 INTs vs Patriots 3 of 8 for 6 yards, 0 TDs, 0 INTs vs Colts 4 of 15 for 20 yards, 0 TDs, 4 INTs vs Bengals
Rams quarterback Chris Miller was concussed in that game. He only played 13 games that year. I'm sure the three he missed were the final three games of the 1995 season. He didn't get into a game again until 1999 with the Broncos. So you could say the Jets knocked him out for 3+ seasons if you wanted to.
I was in the Hospital for that game, I remember it well. I think we had a 21 or 28-0 lead then NE roared back, I also remember the Giants beating the Eagles later that afternoon and philly rbinging in randall cunningham on 3rd downs to replace jaworski.
Ouch! Haha, it seemd like he had a better game when I was 9. Maybe it was his last win as a Jet. I do remember they were bringing Namath in and out of the game for Richard Todd, then a rookie. I remember the crowd would cheer any time Joe came back in the game. Lou Holtz was a disaster.
I was at that game too. I was 10. I remember going to the game and it was snowing, and everyone was in thier cars waving Jets Flags in Traffic. It was a frigid day and I was bundled up like that kid from Christmas Story. I learned years later that the guy who picked the ball of in the endzone was Bill Simpson. I also remember that everyone was yelling and screaming on that last drive and standing. I was kinda small so my view was pretty much obstructed. Then all of a sudden the crowd became silent and my Uncle said "Let's Go"!
My first game was ... October 27, 1974 Jets v. Rams Sort of remember being pushed under the turnstile -- not sure. Remember people climbing up the side of Shea to sneak in. Typical Jets game from that era. Had the lead late in the game. Made mistakes -- lost the game 20-13. http://www.angelfire.com/ab4/mydamrams/13/74jets.html It was such a typical game for the Jets -- that I posted the following in a Jet Blog. Here is part of it: "In fact, In my football pool, I use the nick-name "Wait for the Mistake." Its based on the story, that my father told me that he and his friend had season tickets to the jets in the early to mid 70's (during the time of my first game). His friend, who was a betting man, used to bet against the jets, often. The fourth quarter would roll around and the jets would be "in" the game. Inevitably, they'd make a mistake -- fumble, int, penalty -- what have you. He'd stand up, turn around, and yell, "There it is. The mistake. We were just waiting. I knew it was coming. You knew it was coming. Ive been quiet for three quarters -- but there it is. It comes every week. Thank you very much.""
Haha, a similar thing happened to me at the New England game at Shea in 1978. We sat upstairs in the closed end, where Pat Leahy was lining up for a game-winning FG attempt, down 19-17. Everybody got up and I couldn't see, I knew from the crowd reaction that he missed. Next thing I knew we were leaving.
I wasnt there. My best friend was. He also said the place was shaking. He said the guy in front of him ripped a chair right out of the concrete.
