You hear some stuff in the media that is suggesting Vick will not get a real shot at starting. So if that's true, this whole thread is kind of pointless.
No matter what anyone says at this point, performance in camp and preseason will be a factor in who starts the first game.
Vick will get a real look all camp long. If Geno is good to go it won't matter but it's not like the Jets are going to be ignoring Vick. If Geno's not good to go Vick is going to be the starter next year.
this is way too simple for alot of people to understand, any chance you can rephrase it into a 5 paragraph essay with alot of filler?
It sounds simple, but how do you measure "good to go" for Smith if Vick in fact looks like the better Qb? Once one moves beyond saying the better performer gets the starting job, some level of complication is added.
Stop overthinking it. Use some common sense. If Geno is good in his own right and we're winning games he'll be the starter. Geno has to have another one of his November slides to lose the job. Got it?
geno good vick good geno starts Geno bad vick bad geno starts geno bad vick good vick starts Let go of the "better qb" and its very simple. Everyone else understands this isn't an open competition. Vick is insurance and a reminder to geno that he is not guaranteed to start. Play well or sit.
Again, in real life these are not such simple, binary metrics. That's my only point, and that is not overthinking it.
I'd say you pretty much nailed it but if we apply odds of the likelihood of each scenario it becomes better than the 33% chance of vick starting that we see at face value IMO.
You can't type a 9 paragraph post using simple, binary metrics, although you can do it with vague and haughty bombast that doesn't really say anything at all.
Good to go is the Jets think Smith will be successful this year and help them win games. He's 24 years old. He's the future. Michael Vick is two years from retirement. The Jets wouldn't pass up a chance to get their QB for the next decade in order to play a vet they thought might be marginally better this year. If Geno is not ready to be successful and help the Jets win games, well then it is going to be Vick all the way.
Geno is starting. Period. It would have to be a scenario where he was injured or truly terrible in camp and preseason games for Vick to start. Otherwise Geno starts.
Not disagreeing. But that is a completely different argument and focuses more on what one thinks of geno.
