This. I thought I was going to get all the way through 4 pages of this thread and see no mention on the 2008 season. Favre was rocking and rolling and a LOT of fun to watch.
One thing that really stands out to me is the chemistry between the players. You can see it on and off the field, Deck, B-Marsh, Fitz, they look like they've been best friends for years. Yet it's not exclusive, they have heavily involved KT, Quincy and Smith. Revis, Pryor, and Skrine are always paling it up and playing off each other. Ivory and Powell seem like totally different players this year. I believe everyone senses this and it motivates them to play more inspired. This really speaks volumes to the environment that the coaching staff has put in place.
it's a really good point. usually we are rooting for the jets not to lose, rather than to win, especially in a situation like this. even in a doom or die game I am EXCITED and can't wait to watch the team play. This is a good football team. If we get in then who knows. I won't say too much yet, just want to see what happens this week. But I'll tease my thoughts my saying if we get in, I don't care who we play. With that said, this team reminds me a lot of the 1999 team that never was. They are fulfilling what that team couldn't. So far.
There was a 5 week stretch in the middle of the season that prevents this year from being the most fun. Plus they still need to win in Buffalo.
That was the best coached team. AFC East was the best division in football that year and the Jets went 7-1 with a fluke loss to the then awful colts.
It sure was! Nobody was holding that against him when we were 7-3 and had just beat the Pats in New England....
2008 - Last time I remember being almost sure we would score on any given drive was the 1st half of that season. 2015 is the first time since then I haven't winced everytime the ball was snapped waiting for the team to break my heart.
Then followed that up with a road win against 11-0 Tennessee. Then the bottom fell out. So, it wasn't fun anymore especially when Penny beat Favre for the AFC East crown.
The thread isn't titled "When was the last full season you remember having this much fun watching the Jets?"
todd bowles said... on october 6th. “We understand we’ve only played one quarter of the season and all we did is get off to a good start, We haven’t accomplished anything. We know we have a lot of work to do. Our mindset is such.” todd bowles after the patriots win “We still have a ways to go. I’m not saying we’ve arrived. We won a game. We haven’t arrived yet. We haven’t gotten into the playoffs yet.” and you cant understate what fitzpatrick has brought to the team. finally after how many years since pennington there is a guy who the team can rally around. there is a guy who is sending text messages to guys and videos at all hours of hte day and night. a guy who treats his job like a job that he LOVES rather than a side bar to doing other things. that kind of intensity is something that catches on. he is a professional and has professionals around him. even favre was an outsider just here to do what he could do. fitz has become a leader and a guy who the guys have rallied around.
I enjoyed '98 of course, but was having to try to learn to like Parcells at the time and never believed he'd stay long term. I figured that he would screw us and leave, and he did. I also never trusted or liked Testaverde. I figured he would screw us with a brain lock interception at some point. I enjoyed when Chad played and was healthy, but that was too seldom and had to put up with Herm and Mangini. I really didn't enjoy the season with Favre because I knew he was just using the Jets and didn't want to be here. At one time, he had been one of my favorite players, but with his continual threats to retire and stupid interceptions that lost games for the Packers, I had grown tired of him and knew he wasn't the long term answer. I wasn't just wanting one season of glory. I enjoyed 2009 and 2010 even though I thought Rex was a dumbass, and never believed in Sanchez or Tanny. Even though I've only gotten to see a few games this season, I've enjoyed it more than any I can remember in a long time, Maybe since the days of Wesley Walker, Toon, Freeman McNeil, Johnny Hector, and Kenny O, or even Namath, Maynard, Sauer, Jr., Boozer and Snell. The reason I'm enjoying this season more than any of those is that for the first time I have real hope for the future. I believe in Mac and Bowles more than any HC since the days of Walt Michaels/Weeb Eubanks, and don't remember who the GM was who put together those '80s Jets teams with Klecko, Walker, Kenny O et al, but we haven't had a quality GM since then. While they've had some growing pains, they've achieved and improved more than I thought possible. We have some exciting young players. We have a quality HC and a GM that has a real eye for talent. At least that's what I think right now. In addition, I like the comraderie and chemistry of the team. They're really fun to watch. Once they upgrade the OL and the LB corps and have a consistent pass rush, I know they'll be even more fun to watch, and if they ever get that quality QB, they will not only be fun to watch but dangerous.
definitely 2010 for me... that was a fun ride. as satisfying as it was to beat the Cheats this week, beating them in their house in the playoffs was sweeter. would love to replicate that this season, and beat them again.
2010. The last minute Comeback victory against the Texans generated one of the best GIFs I've ever seen. Schaub goes from being jovial and smiling to hat brim over eyes and basically crying in a matter of 1 minute.
'98 was the last time I had this much fun watching the Jets. Although, that made the loss in Denver hurt that much worse because I knew Parcells was on a short-term plan and I truly believed that team was the best team in the NFL that season. I don't feel this year's team is the best, but they are hot at the right time and for the first time since Penny, I don't wince when the QB drops back...
Ha I remember that! Sanchez found Braylon on a streak down the sideline and then Holmes in the corner of the Endzone. Only issue was, we had just blown the lead before that drive IIRC.
This season has been amazing. We need this win Sunday to make the playoffs and continue a fasinating season! This team has the coaches and players to compete for the super bowl. To me it's the most talented team we've had since I've watched football (old enough to understand the game) which dates back to around 2001. Best offense I've seen the jets have for sure. Wish revis, Cro and ferguson were about 5 years younger lol and we'd be unstoppable
Absolutely true. I was extremely pessimistic about this team as recently as a month ago. Having said that, the last few weeks have been awesome. This is the most entertaining offense we've had in probably a decade or so, at least. Marshall, Decker and Powell have been a joy to watch. The Jets haven't had a WR like Marshall in a verrry long time, and I'm glad to see Powell getting more reps. Edit: To answer the original question, our playoff runs in 09/10 were more exciting than this season (Jets/Pats playoff games are just about the peak of Jetfan excitement for me) but this one has potential to be an all timer depending on what we do in our remaining game(s).
