i was going to post something similar to this and am glad you did. for the first time in a really really long time i feel like i really enjoy everything about this team. woody has grinded on me since he bought the team, i hated herm, hated sanchez, didnt like bradway, schottenheimer, mangina, hackett, cottrell, holmes or a bunch of other guys who just ground my gears. in all honesty its probably not since parcells that i have enjoyed a team this much and even then it wasnt to this level. these past few weeks i have felt like a kid again watching and rooting for this team. it really has been fun and has been enjoyable. i hope we can keep it going and i hope that it continues through to next year. guys like mauldin, fitzpatrick, revis, pryor, mo, williams, mangold are easy to root for. the owner has made me forget he owns the team, maybe my anger and hatred of hte new stadium has lessened or i just dont give a shit because i dont go anymore. whatever it is i am having a blast watching this team play.
no way man the team is eerily similar to the 1998 team. its almost creepy: A veteran castoff at QB who started the training camp as the backup. Bookend dynamic weapons at WR making plays every week A defense that stuffs the run and turning on as of late both teams were very balanced with a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense that 1998 team got over some early struggles and finished the regular season with 6 straight wins. This team will be going for 6 straight sunday (crosses fingers) also- that 1998 team got their big win to clinch things....... in buffalo! (crosses fingers that this team will do the same) that 2010 team wasn't anything like this team.
Rex Ryan's first 2 seasons were every bit as fun and exciting, recall. And we made the AFC Championship game each of those years. So until Bowles proves otherwise, Rex is still the better coach. Having said that, this has been a GREAT season and we are all optimistic entering what is really a playoff game next week against, ironically enough, Rex's Bills!
When I had FUN watching the Jets? Hmmm.... I'd say about a quarter and a half into the 1999 season. Those were a magical 21 minutes.
This year has been much less cringe inducing, gut tightening than the last few. You know what I'm talking about...the QB drops back and you're expecting one of 3 things: a fumble, a sack or an interception. They had their 1-4 stretch, but even then I expected the team to get their shit together and play better the next week. I haven't missed the bloviating, "We'll play them again right now in the parking lot" crapola one little bit. 2010 was great getting to the AFCC, but in the end we got what we expected, disappointment. Fitz : 29 td/12 int--60% comp--2 fumble--league low 18 sacks
Eh. The world was never really the same for me after I realized that, yeah, there really IS such a thing as a bad blowjob.
This is good stuff. Great point on out current HC. Bowles sideline demeanor and the way he handles the NY media like a true pro with his easy going business like approach is just a breath of fresh air after all those years with Rex. Rex was great and the attitude and culture he brought ignited this team in the first 2 years. But as he kept droning on and on acting so boisterous it was embarrassing.
The most fun for me was 2002's run with Chad Pennington. He ELECTRIFED the team when he entered the line-up. Head butting o-lineman, super energetic, and an overall great QB. 2009/10 was great to win and win playoff games, but not sure I would call it fun. Some games in 2010 were. Definitely the playoff win in New England.
This thread is a week premature. If the Jets lose on Sunday, then this season doesn't compare to another playoff season. It will be 2000 all over again, and that was brutal. How about we wait until the Jets make the playoffs before we put this season on the level of 2010, 2009, 1998 (all of which ended in the he AFC title game) or 200, 1969, 2006 or any other playoff year.
Really? No fun in 2010??? Beating the Pat's at home, winning two OT games in a row vs Cleveland and Detroit and following that up with the last second win vs the Texans, beating Favre, beating Manning and the Colts followed by beating Brady and the Pat's in the playoffs was not fun??????????
Had more fun watching the Jets in the early to mid-80s with their high octane offense and spectacular offensive line. And let's not forget, The Sack Exchange was exciting as hell to watch. Of course, the decade was marred with major disappointments, which left a bitter taste in one's mouth.
The question is about fun To me fun for a football fan means a high expectation of things going your way, then seeing it happen. No worries. Supreme confidence that your team is coming out on top. For me, that was 1998 after Vinnie took the reins at QB, and then 2002 down the stretch after Pennington took over I do not include 2009 & 2010 as fun. The results of the playoffs were highly enjoyable but there was too much pressure. Rex's bravado, Francessa and other haters constantly putting the team down. I did not feel confident and I expected the worst to happen on every play. As i said, I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome, but watching the games was too pressure packed and not that enjoyable.
I know everyone is saying 1998 and I don't disagree, but i have to give some love to 2002. Chad gave us hope, we won the division thanks to miami beating NE in the final game , whooped indy 41-0 in the 1st playoff game. it was a wild ride.
I was too young for 1998 so aside from this season it's gotta be 09-10. But man, being at the game yesterday solidified this season as the most fun. I'm not ready for it to end.
1998. I was 13 and blown away watching Curtis Martin run. I am a Jets fan today because of Curtis Martin and the 1998 season. I feel like I am mainlining espresso, I am that jacked up for Sunday in Buffalo.
I really enjoyed watching the 2010 Jets. Still gotta go with that year, we were a special team. Most excited was 98, 02 then 2010 overall.
sure it does. like someone else mentioned a few posts ago this team is FUN to watch, it is competent in important positions and playing very well. win or lose this is still the most fun i have had in at least the 2000s. there were clouds of idiocy and jackassery over the other teams. the herm teams and the rex teams, i never felt comfortable with either of those idiots in charge. who knows if bowles will make me feel that way eventually or if they will sign some idiots in the off season but right now this team is fun to watch and easy to root for.
