I actually worry about the pass rush greatly. In 2004 we had a secondary that was far from star studded (Donnie Abraham, Barrett, Coleman, Tongue) but it was covered up by an absolutely amazing season from John Abraham, and then by Shaun Ellis and creative blitzing towards the end when Abe got gimpy. This year the Jets secondary is similarly unimpressive (Dyson is a journeyman, Barrett is a #2, Rhodes is a fringe starter, Coleman still makes a lot of coverage errors) but we it doesn't look like we'll be able to cover it up.

Unless somebody like Bryan Thomas plays well above expectations we could be in for some trouble stopping the pass.

We can get get a pass rush with maybe a free agent signing and players in the draft.
    players to look for

    07 too far away
    3-4 OLB Gaines Adams, Clemson
    3-4 OLB Quentin Moses,Georgia

    3-4 DE Baraka Atkins, Miami(FL)

Since Mangini is suppose to be this defensive specialist, I think we will be seeing all sorts of stunts from our Linebackers. This should put much more pressure on opposing quaterbacks.

I agree with most of what you said here. Unfortunately this team had so many holes you couldn't finish them all. I was praying Manny Lawson would fall to #29, but he didn't. It's going to make more than 1 year to fix the team. I could be wrong, but considering the picks they made at LB this draft, I think they believe Barton and/or Kassel could be that edge OLB. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

lbs are going to be stunting like crazy. We really need to blitz on every third down....I hate how the Jets like to drop back on 3rd down.

Hah, no, "Weee!" is a catch phrase of mine so I forgot myself and let myself go with wanton abandon. I was just kidding you, not nitpicking (a peeve of mine). I'm great for misfires. My claim to infamy is leaving out entire words or typing the same word twice - constantly. What's up with that, I'd like to know. This thread still gets an A++ on my JETS Report Card nonetheless. Wait - what was it about again? Pass Rush. Right.

I agree with the original post here. The Jets are in serious need of a pass rusher now that Abraham is gone. That being said, the Jets have/had so many needs it would have been impossible to address them all in the draft--A speed rushing DE or LB is missing from the roster, I'm sure that will be proirity number 1 next offseason. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself...maybe Ellis can have a big year and Thomas can finally show something.
