JMO, I don't think Mac wants to spend the #6 pick on a RB. I wouldn't mind drafting Cook, his big play ability and great hands would be a huge help to our anemic offense. I like Fournette, but have Cook rated higher, so I won't consider him at #6. I think Adams or Foster are the favorites so far, but don't be surprised if Adams is gone when the Jets are OTC. The Jets need to get a starter At #6 and both Foster and Adams would be immediate starters and leaders on our defense. I don't like Hooker as much as others on this site, he is still very raw and lacks experience. He's more of a risk/reward pick vs Adams. As far as a trade, very doubtful, but I would love to get some additional picks, if we could trade back.
My gut is telling me this is an awful draft all around, and the Jets should trade all their picks away for picks in future drafts. This is the least excited I've been about a draft class since 1992. I do like the Safety prospects: Hooker, Adams, and Peppers. Of those three, I think Hooker would be the best fit for the Jets right now, but I think Peppers will have the best career in the end. All three could be very good. It also looks to be a pretty good draft for defensive ends, so that's helpful to the Jets in no way whatsoever. Trade down, trade out, move on. No? Oh well, I'm a Jets fan, and accustomed to disappointment.
I think Adams will be the pick if he is on the board when the Jets pick. He would be an immediate starter at either safety position and could be the team leader.
Maybe something bizarre will happen if we don't trade down and whoever gets picked refuses to play for toilet bowles
This is not a terrible draft, in fact, the depth at some positions (CB, S, RB & TE) is quite good. I like the value of players in Rd 2 & 3 and we have 3 picks in those rounds. It's just a bad year looking for a QB and OT at the top of the draft, two of our biggest needs. I'm sure we will sign a vet QB and if the Jets are still lousy in 2017, which I expect, we should have a shot of some outstanding QBs in 2018's draft.
The thread is "What's your gut telling you", not "What does your rational mind tell you to expect from this draft". Logically, I'm certainly aware of the depth at CB and S, and to some extent at TE. I'm not as excited about the RBs, mostly because I don't think Fournette or Cook will live up to their potentials, but they could surprise me. My gut, however, is not a logical organ. It tells me that this draft is full of a bunch of busts and injury shortened careers. Why my gut tells me this, I do not know. If this weren't a thread about the opinions of our guts, I wouldn't have asked my gut, and would have stuck to my more logical organs.
My gut is telling me they will select Foster. I'd like Fournette but in a deep RB class, snagging a stud in Foster and than selecting a RB in the second or even 3rd makes more sense but wtf do I know.
Sadly, my gut says Hooker or Lattimore at 6. Safety round 2 , corner with our first pick round 3. DE with the comp pick,107. O line in round 4 , but since we don't have a 4 th round pick , it will cost us our 5th and next year's 4th to move up. Not what I want but being this seems to be the standard operating procedure of our beloved franchise. Then my gut says , I'm gonna need more toilet paper.
Lattimore certainly does not have value or is worth using the #6th pick. Trade back and draft Lattimore in the mid teens, that's fine. Hooker, IMO, is also not worth the drafting at #6. I don't understand all the love for Hooker on this site by some. I live in Columbus and have see every game of his very short career, I'm not overly impressed. Hooker is very, very raw and hasn't shown leadership and consistency in his one year of starting. Drafting Hooker at #6, is a hope that he will develop, too risky for me. Granted, he is a excellent athlete and has shown some playmaking ability, but there will be better players available with the 6th pick.
I agree with you, but keeping with the spirit of the thread, I was answering what my gut tells me the franchise will do. Not what I would like them to do.
My gut says Jamal Addams & if he's off the board then CB (maybe Teez Tabor). CB would be a reactionary pick to cutting Revis. Just like Rex and the Jets drafting Kyle Wilson after Manning mauled that secondary in the previous AFCCG Pryor isn't good enough to prevent Jets from drafting a safety that can play in the box. Also, I think Addams can hold down FS for 2017 and move over during 2018 when Pryor is left to walk the plank after rookie contract ends.
