Started going to Jet games with my uncle who had season seats at Shea @ 1965, mezzanine end zone, right behing home plate. We would park behind a bar called Breslin's on Main Street in Flushing, walk to the game and drink shots of manhattans from a flask everytime the Jets scored. Been a fan ever since. Been through it all. So is my son, I guess you could call that some sort of child abuse.
00-01 season during high school and started to learn about football and now proud owner of season tickets
82 I think. Its the first memory I have - my father watching the Jets in teh playoffs. Him asking me to sit and watch. "Dad - who are the guys in green with that cool supersonic Jet on the helmet." In 97 my blood turned from red to green cause my father followed Parcells. That's when heavy emotional misery started rather just "damn, too bad they lost".
My Dad took me to a Titans game in the Polo Grounds when I was 8 or some young tender age. Little did I realize that I would become a fan of this team and continue rooting for them all through the dark decades of Jet History and the precious few high points.
I also stopped by that bar for a few shots before the game. It was mostly very cold so I needed warming before and after the game. Those memories were pleasant.
Ha that is funny since I tell my kid (now 40) all the time that U hate me because I amde U a NYJ fan
Man, didn't realize how many people here became fans during the decade of garbage in the late 80s/early-mid 90s. Bruce Coslet, Pete Carroll, Rich Kotite, bleh. Although, it seems like the 70s was pretty crappy too.
I would say I became a big fan the year they drafted Keyshawn (I was young and stupid) and went 1-15. I do have some memories of some earlier games like the win and you're in game against Detroit, but I would say this is really when I started following them.
You guys have great memories. I think I smoked too much pot in college. Went to my first game at Shea in 1977 or 1978, but the only thing I remember about it was that it was cold, wet, windy, and I was wearing a green #51 Greg Buttle jersey. That jersey was so fricken' cool.
1981 is the first year I can vividly remember when I was 6, I was spoiled early on w/ 4 playoff apps in 6 seasons then it turned bad from '87-'96 before coming back to being a good franchise again from 1997-current. We haven't won a SB but we have had a good franchise in my lifetime outside of the '87-'96 stretch. It sucks to have never seen a SB but it's been a grat ride of ups and downs as a Jet fan and when we do make a SB it will all have been worth it.
Since the Polo Grounds and the Titans but I was really excited when they changed their name and uniforms to the J-E-T-S. There was a family (the Hagans) that had 13 season tickets on the 50 yard line - all together. What ever happened to you guys?
1967, when I could first understand what was going on in the game of football. Damn thats a long time ago
My A-hole step father was a Giants fan so I obviously had to lean towards a different team. I was a baseball fan before I really got into football so I wanted to stay NY. About 1998 I started watching the Jets, hooked ever since.
We're all around the same age, 1st game I attended was a curb stomping of the Bills which was the 85 home opener. Vince Feragamo was their QB as Kelly was not yet a Bill. Kurt Sohn scored a TD and Tony Paige ran for 2. My dad and 2 uncles got season tickets when they moved to the Meadowlands but I was only 6 at the time I attended my first game. The following season was the 1st that I actually remember quite a few things about. I went to a Thursday night game which we lost to the Pats who were coming off a SB. I also attended my 1st and only Jet home playoff game that year. 26 years ago.... sheesh.
