We can draft a QB and not have him get killed by having him sit on the bench...wow that was tough

OK then we have to add another QB? since when did we have all this cap room available? And hoping that Bollinger stays healthy for a year by getting put through the ringer is rolling the dice, isn't it?

Who said the rookie QB would start, though?

That's exactly what I was pointing out....But don't think crazy like that! He would get KILLED out there! The Gatorade and hard bench could cause serious problems!

Agreed, but you do realize it is legal to fix the oline? Our Oline will not be in the top 5 next year, but it won't be as bad as it was this past season...

Brooks Bollinger? Cheap FA Vet (They are out there)

The last two games would belong to the Rookie QB though.

I've seen a couple reports that say this. It's because there is a lack of a CBA. Pennington, from those reports, say he has an "unlikely to be earned" incentive in his deal for 3M. Unfortunately, since there is not a new CBA, this must be counted in the 2006 cap. If there was a new CBA, this would count in 2007 if it was earned. Now, we'd get a simple credit in 2007 (which does us no good) if it is not earned.

Pennington, with that report in mind, is $15 if he is on the team, and $12 if not. He has a provision in his deal allowing the Jets to turn his 6M salary into signing bonus, lowering his cap hit to 10.5M if they so choose, but that would put 4.5M in the bonus pool for proration purposes, and it does not sound like (and I can't blame them) the Jets are interested in that.

I understand this but, putting so much money in one position this year will severly hinder our rebuilding process, and potentially having a new Center, Guard and Right tackle, with no experience with each other, can you really put all our hopes on Bollinger remaining healthy all year?

If we Cut Chad this year we should have alot more cap room next year then we did this year. So I don't think our rebuilding process would be slowed at all...We are going to have to take our lumps sooner or later...

That's what I was going to say. Pennington was scheduled to make (according to JI2004's page) $7M in 2007. That's $7M extra on our QB budget.

I hope you aren't referring to LeCharles Bentley or Steve Hutchinson beause those guys will require lots of money...A guy like Tom Ashworth could fit in nicely though...

I would rather Stephen Neal for the other guard position, but I think the Patriots will try really hard to keep him.

Or if he is restructured and then cut him next year and avoid the bulk of the cap hit altogether with the uncapped year next year, I don't know that seems like more sense to me.
