I can see a free fall if he gets past 3 teams-

Cleveland (lets hope that they trade up for RGIII)
Bucs (Either Mo Claiborne or Blackmon drops so lets hope they are the pick)
KC (OL is more pressing of a need- DeCastro or Rieff)

If he can manage to get past those three teams, I think he could land right in out laps... We can only hope!

The Jets haven't had a back like Trent Richardson since Freeman McNeil. The possibility of trading away from that type of prospect when he drops to the 16 and all the other players that are similar talents are taken is mildly nauseating.

Where would the Ravens be right now without Ray Rice? Where would the Texans have been without Arian Foster?

When you get the chance to grab a talent like Richardson cheap because a bunch of teams made a mistake up high you take it. This is especially true if the offense is not functioning well.

You want to halt the pass rush in it's tracks? You do a lot of play-action to Trent Richardson next season and you throw him some screens and even a few quick hitters up the seams. That'll make the pass rush stutter step a bit on the way in.

Now, if Richardson dropped because of legitimate concerns about the knee that was scoped, well that's another story. He doesn't have a ton of carries at Alabama but he sure did take a bunch last season.

I have a hard time believing that he's going to be there at 16 but if he is and he passes the Jets physical beforehand they have to take him. It'd be spitting into the wind if they traded away from him.

    I agree.

I'm usually a big fan of trading down, and both of those offers are tempting. But for the way Rex Ryan wants to run his offense, a guy like Trent Richardson would work wonders. I think he's a stud and a top 5 pick in most drafts. Plus, Greene is a good complement to Richardson.

A runningback would have a much greater impact than a WR just because the Jets want to be a run-first team. Plus, with Braylon being an option at WR, and the draft being deep at the position, I'm sure we can wait to help that out. I'd love to get a lineman, too, but Richardson would just be too good to pass up if we didn't have to trade up.

My question is this, if T Rich falls to the Jets. Can we take an OLB and draft someone like Martin in the 2nd.

Is there that much of a drop off between the two and what is mroe important as a team need?

I am usually in agreement with you, br4d, but for this one I would have to agree to disagree.

To me, draft is a crapshoot - high draft picks happen to have higher chance to succeed than low round prospects. That's all there is to it. Having a clear blueprint of what talents you want on your system, and having a clear vision of what prospects you are looking for go very long way into building a dominant franchise. Bill Walsh had an uncanny ability in that regard.

Now, if you don't have that kind of a visionary on your team (and I must tell you, these sages are a rarity.) the next best thing you can do is to install a system that will function regardless of external conditions - and any system that involves all-weather football will have to include a strong OL first and foremost. With the stud OL in place, you get to protect your QB and get the yardage through the ground at the same time.

For this reason, I think RB pick in 1st round is a luxury pick no matter how good that RB is. *Of course, unless we're talking about HoF quality RBs, but then 1. we don't even know if the prospect will pan out like Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith when the kids are fresh out of college and 2. they also benefit a lot from the team (Smith more so than Sanders.)* To me, blowing 1st round pick in RB or WR is a big no-no, just like blowing that 1st round pick on CBs is a no-no in my book. If anybody wants to jump on Trent Richardson, let it be someone else - I sure hope to God Jets don't do that.

If the Jets are really going to be a run first team again then they need a true feature back more than anybody. It's comical to think Greene will ever be that. If Richardson is there they will take him unless they don't think he can fill that role either.

No, I think they're going to thank their lucky stars and grab him on the 11 if he gets out of the top 10.

The move that really worries me though is the Jaguars using MJD to get a bunch of picks if Richardson drops to the 7.
