franchise QB(we hope) elite TE(DK on his way) at least one elite WR(I think we keep Holmes) All-Pro Center, Pro-Bowl LT Shonn Greene and John Connor Rex will ALWAYS have an elite defense. I'm not at all worried that we're old at OLB and on the dline. We still have many draft picks despite making a lot of trades. Lets also remember who our GM is. We'll trade up or trade for players we really want.
Next season is gonna be more different then anything else i predict the following will be gone richardson - reirement Jenkins - retirement Holmes - free agency Gholston - cut to save money Cromartie - free agency Taylor - retirement thats alot to lose in 1 offseason. lucky we have the draft and we'll get extra picks for losing them. in the next 2-3 years i think we'll lose woody ellis - retirement pryce - retirement LT - retirement
Conner replaces Richardson - no problem Jenkins has been constantly injured - we are still good w/out him Holmes - either him or Edwards will most likely be gone - still a good corps Gholston - good Cromartie - not guaranteed we will lose him ..and the retirements aren't guaranteed Plus we have the draft, and Ducasse hopefully can replace Woody by then All of those pieces are replaceable/or not an issue The core of our team are all in ther 20's (Sanchez, Greene, Cotchery, Holmes, Edwards, Keller, Mangold, Ferguson, Revis, Wilson, Cromartie, Harris, Slauson/Ducasse(?) )
I'd replace Holmes with Edwards, it'll depend on what Cro is asking for, with our age on the dline there is no way we can afford to cut Gholston since he took a pay cut to stay, remember Pouha is already in his 30s.
QB: Sanchez RB: Greene + Someone else significant (either through draft or trade) + McKnight FB: Terminator TE: Keller + possibly another good one WR: Cotchery + Holmes or Edwards (or Both, that would be my preference) LT: D'Brick LG: Slauson C: Mangold RG: Moore + his replacement RT: Ducasse The entire offense looks vastly similar to what we have now - to me at least. DL: NT + 2 DEs + DeVito and either Howard Green, Trevor Pryce (or both) ILB: Bart Scott + David Harris OLB: Thomas + Pace + 2 replacements CB: Revis + K.Wilson + (possibly) Cro Safety: Pool + Leonhard ST: Brad Smith, Eric Smith, Pardum (spelling?), etc. K: Folk (if he doesn't shit the bed) P: Weatherford (Same) So the front 7 will receive some heavy dose of draft picks, but the back line will look similar to what we got. This team is not just built for now. It's built to last.
LOL, yeah I was thinking the same thing. We're finally in a year we can gear up for and enjoy, and we're already looking beyond that concerened about the furure. Typical for us I imagine. OK, I'll answer the question. I think in two years we'll look very much the same. Green and white will still be our colors, and I expect we'll have white helmets. Our throwback uni's will be the sack exchange look, green helmets, white stripes on the sleeves. Sanchez will probably be our QB. Clemens will be gone.
In my honest opinion and i think very highly of holmes, i can't understand why everyone is counting BE out. 1) BE has obviously good chemistry with sanchez and we want sanchez happy 2) BE is our number 1 right now and we are a top 5 scoring offense in the first quarter of the season w/o holmes 3) holmes has never really been a true number 1 yet 4) BE gives us much needed size at WR, holmes is small but has killer speed 5) BE has consistently said he wants to retire a jet, holmes hasn't said a peep Right now i think BE is the favorite to stay, holmes would have to be lights out to keep him. also if holmes gets popped smoking weed he gets a full 16 game suspension BE isn't in danger of that and has never been suspended Also we gave up 2 players (trusnik and stucky i think?) a 2nd and a 5th for BE we only gave a 5th for holmes and will likely get a 3rd round comp pick if he leaves meaning letting holmes walks turns a 5th rounder into holmes for 12 games and a future 3rd rounder. Also remember we have never seen holmes take 1 snap in out offense, lets see some production before we anoint him our future #1
this is exactly what gets you a 1 year run and then 6 years of mediocrity. That's a SOJF mentality. I'm already thinking 3-5 years ahead.
this no one knows what anything is going to look like with the CBA issue. football is the most rapid changing and fluid sport due to the way it's designed and the nature of the sport. so this is really a moot question
Im just hoping we get Cromo Braylon Holmes and Harris long term contracts especially since were already short on draft picks and have significant needs @ HB OL DL S OLB in the near future. With the Pats having an absolute fucking boatload of picks next year (including the Raiders very early one) and having some good young players they could be a serious contender again even if Brady will start heading to the retirement home by then. Im just hoping Tannys got a plan to keep all the talent around for a while and this is definitely a dynasty
If you guys wanna enjoy one year of great success and then not look ahead, and then complain about it - be my guest. I look towards sustained success for this franchise.
I'm just kidding with you - its more the idea that it matters one jot what we (the fans) think - its what Tanny etc are doing that counts
