I don't think anyone is pretending that the Jets are a playoff lock this year. Unfortunately unless a miracle happens, the Pats are gonna beat the living shit out of the AFC East. If you think the Dolphins are a lock for the playoffs, you are mistaken. I don't know ANYONE who expects them to have as good of a record as last year, even if they are a better team than last year. The Jets have plenty of holes, esp. offense. The Dolphins have their share as well. The only things that are definitely going to be better from the AFC East last year are the Pats and Matt Cassel's bank account.
From Mark's exit interview on wearesc Mark is genuinely happy to be on the Jet's team, and he knows he was fortunate to be selected to a team with a great group of players. You?ve been part of winning programs starting from Mission Viejo to USC and now you are playing for the Jets. What do you see about the Jets so far that is similar in terms of it being a program that is ready to win? If anything, I really lucked out because these group of guys are talented offensively, defensively, and on special teams. Others guys I?ve talked to from USC who are rookies now say that the guys on their team aren?t as close as we were when we were at USC. I am so happy with the guys I?m with. The offensive line has embraced me, the receiving core is doing really well, and the running backs are great. All those guys are so fun to be around. They hang out more than what I expected and a lot more from what other people have told me. I think it reflects our management in Mike Tannenbaum. He looks for great players, but wants the right people. Coach Ryan is as competitive as Coach Carroll. When it?s time for ball, he gets real serious. He gets after his defense. When it?s time to relax, he?s the first one showing us YouTube clips and telling jokes. He loves being around the guys. It?s really a great atmosphere to be around.
Thanks , great post. How refreshing to hear someone so positive in all aspects of the game. Keep it going MS.
IMO the only way to learn is on the field... i dont care what they say about learn from the guy in front of you.. you have to be hands on and see whats coming in real time.. i could tell you this is what you should do but when things change on the field what you should do no longer is what you should do then what.. Peyton was thrown to the wolves and look at him now he is a QB machine check off of everything and he is a field general
The thing I'm happy about here is that both of our QB options are still young guys. If either of them develop into something good, they have a long career ahead of them. Clemens is still 26 I believe. At least we don't have Sanchez and some other old fart looking to end his career somewhere.
this is a good point. best case, clemens develops into something good and we have a hard decision to make
I don't disagree with anything you just said. Look, basically... the frustration I was relaying in my post that you quoted probably would apply to most football fans in the country. All I was trying to say was that, while the quarterbacks are among the most important players on their teams, I just think they get more attention than they should. Because you could put Tom Brady on the 2008 Lions team (or the 2007 Dolphins team) and he would probably look horrible. At the same time you can look at QBs like Trent Dilfer (and I'd look up others, except I'm too lazy) who won superbowls even though they were mediocre. Or look at Dan Marino whom I am sure you hate, but who was - let's be honest - an exceptional quarterback, who never won a superbowl. Because he never had a good defense to back him up. The point is this: Football is the ultimate team sport, and in my mind, you stand a better chance of winning with 53 above average players than you do with 2 or 3 superstars at whatever position. Is it nice to have a couple of superstars? Of course - see NE in 2007, but will it guarantee you championships? hell no: again see NE in 2007. That is all I've been trying to say in some of my posts on this forum.
However... even with a 1-15 record in '07, we still have a better record for the decade than you guys!
