For me it has to be the way shonne Greene ran the ball. He finally looked like a starting runningback.
One thing I'm looking forward to is sweeping the Bills, beating the Pats and Fins. we would be 5-1 in the division and if either the Eagles, Giants or Steelers can beat the Pats we could end in a tie and win the division which means a home game. But I dont want a bye because we suck after byes.
I was most impressed by our confidence. We carried ourselves like an elite team in the 2nd half. We didn't look like we were "stealing" a win from a good team (despite what the Chargers feel).Guys were looking at each other on the sidelines like "why didn't we do this all year"...especially the receivers. Theres a difference between trying to win and expecting to win.
I can't say for sure but I definitely noticed Mauga on the field on a bunch of plays but don't remember seeing Westerman at all. As far as I'm concerned keeping Westerman off the field is fine with me - he hasn't been very impressive so far. To the OP, another factor that was promising was that the ball finally got spread around more than it has been: Keller, Kerley and Plax all had 4 catches, Holmes had 2, and LT had 3 - seems like one or two guys have been disappearing every week but this time they did a much better job of getting everyone involved.
Another thing I like is more contribution from the younger guys in every game Wilson, Mauga, Westerman Wilkerson, Maybin, add';l point of attack blocking by Mulligan & Ducassse (!?!), Ellis before he got hurt. McKnight, Kerley are all producing Its almost as if we're getting younger on the fly
The best part of the game was the defensive half time adjustments without a doubt. If Plax turns his head on that INT he would've had 4 TDs. That Keller strip was uncommon, the Mangold hold on the Holmes TD very uncommon. IMO Sanchez has been playing well all season except for the Ravens game. Yeah our offense has had its troubles but the main reason we haven't been looking like we did in years passed is the rush defense. The second half defense is what I hope we see going forward. 3 punts in a row, 2 INTs in a row and the last series where Rivers just threw the ball away on 4th down. We held Rivers to his worst QBR, worst completion percentage, and his lowest average yards per completion.
We should add a favorite pictures from the game to this weekly thread. Here are my two. EVERY GAME (↓)
Good observation. I didn't notice this during the games but now that you mention it that is the reason why I noticed Bart trying to tackle running backs on the edge ( and missing on at least 2 that I saw. Am I just making stuff or has anyone else seemed to notice Bart missing quite a few tackles this year ??) Interesting to see what type of schemes we can come up with with the combination of Scott, Mauga, Maybin and Westerman. Any thoughts?
1- Mangold is still playing hurt and is trying to adjust by holding a bit more than usual and it bit him. Give him 2 weeks to heal up and our o-line will be that much better. 2- kerely has had 2 good games for us. I guess if you're gonna shoot your mouth off it's best to make sure there ain't some young kid who's better than you waiting in the wings. 3- if the penalties called on the bolts were called on the jets and we lost, well, we'd probably be singing a different tune. The last 'incroachment' penalty and the past PI were both jokes...not sure if it changed the outcome of the game but it sure didn't hurt the jets any! we'll take it. 4- tone's TD catch was amazing 5- i'd like to see McKnight on some more screens
Penalties, esp. Pass Interference, have a way of evening up (see: Oakland game this year, or any time we play New England
I think the run game is the catalyst for a lot of things. If the run game flows it means the play-calling flows, it means Sanchez gets more time/room to develop the pass, it means the Jets are less predictable. But to answer your question . . . you could say Plax, but Jets need to be in the redzone for him to be effective. And I dont know if Greene can run the ball like that consistently. I'll say the offensive line was promising.
there were a ton of positives about the win. Greene running hard. The o line doing great with protection and opening up holes defense buckling down at the end. our corners played lights out Plax going off and getting involved total team effort. aside from our safeties, everyone played well (even Mangold despite his penalties. he brings way too much to the team otherwise). btw, no one's mentioned this....but how about those blocks by Mulligan? Nice to see him making an impact and NOT getting a holding call instead
i didnt read the whole thread but in addition to greene and maybin which both played very well and are absolutely necessary to our success was the reemergence of dustin keller, i still see him as the most important receiver on the team as he makes big plays and opens things up for everyone.
