No, he's not. He's making about the number of mistakes you would expect a good young QB to make at this point in their careers. Do you want to go game by game on what Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger did as they dealt with the heightened expectations in the first half of their third seasons? Do you want to go game for game with Joe Flacco? We're not talking guys from the 70's, 80's and 90's here, we're talking guys drafted a year or five in front of Sanchez. Do you really want to compare what Sanchez is doing this season with what Drew Brees did in his third season, which caused the San Diego Chargers to trade Eli Manning for another QB? Seriously, you're so stuck on Sanchez's few mistakes that you can't see a great QB developing right under your nose.
Too many mistakes for Sanchez?? A INT in the end zone (Manning tossed on yesterday also and he is being called elite today) and a fumbled snap (Rivers did that against KC from under center and it cost them the game and had another 4 INTs yesterday)...Sanchez was 11-12 on play action passes yesterday...mad some sweet throws and struggled a bit when Keller went out. Overall Sanchez is playing solid ball this season.
Joe McKnight. Only had a few KR but was effective. Ran well out of the backfield, had one good run called back on the Sanchez holding and he was wide open in the flat on the Sanchez INT.
You are the one who is stuck. Were they mistakes or not? Of course they were. It has nothing to do with stat comps to other Qb's. They are dumbass mistakes. And I never said he overall sucked yesterday. Not at all. Just don;t ignore the mistakes. You can if you need to. I think there's a balance involved in assessing him. So I don't.
The running game is back on track The defense looked really good, they were forcing turnovers and stopping the run For the most part Sanchez throwing the ball well Plaxico is getting comfortable
You can't assess sanchez WITHOUT making a comparison to other QBs. Good QBs make mistakes too. outside of that one throw and the fumble (which br4dw4y gave good examples to) he played a really good game. yes they were 2 big mistakes, but you can't really look at anyone outside of aaron rodgers and say they don't make mistakes. Brady has what, 10-11 picks this year? Sanchez has been relatively turnover free since the baltimore game. So I don't see how someone can say " he's still making too many mistakes". some people have these impossible expectations for sanchez. it's like he needs to throw 35 tds and throw only 4 ints for people to be happy. and i'm sure they'd still be pissed as hell at those 4 ints and saying he sucks.
This is where I'm at. There are mistakes he makes where you think "3rd year, so why?" But Sanchez is a different breed of QB that we've never seen before - a top 5 pick with under 20 starts in college who started his NFL career immediately. He's writing a new part of history with every throw, so that's where the balance comes in of still being patient with his progress. I think the summation is that we'll see bonehead plays, but they'll be few and far away from each other and he'll be more consistent, which ultimately results in high QB play that will elevate this team to a contender every year. His stats may not and should not ever be one of fantasy lore, but he'll be a winner. Sanchez is a throwback QB in terms of progression. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but has Eli Manning. This is definitely Manning's best year, and its his 7th year.
No one is ignoring the mistakes. We all see him making some and acknowledge them, but nitpicking about them and saying they are dumb and rookie like mistakes, which are only his forte is insane. Like many have said, myself included, all QBs make mistakes, nobody is perfect. All the Sanchez haters seem to forget that, and require him to have 300+ yards with 4 TDs and no ints with a +70 completion percentage in order to consider him a good QB. He is a good quarterback and is improving every week, and I'm very happy for him to be quarterbacking the NY Jets.
positive - shonn greene is punishing people and is showing good speed in the open. i didnt doubt this guy for a second. give him blocking and look what happens. if the o-line continues this success, the sky is the limit for this team.
Manning also was a 3 year starter at Ole Miss and came out after his senior year. If you look at the development of most quarterbacks, Sanchez is right where he's supposed to be if not ahead in many areas. Drew Brees became really good in San Diego after his 4th year in the league but he BLEW up when he went to New Orleans in his 6th year. (Speaking of which, i never realized that San diego traded the first pick to Atlanta for Vick and drafted LT and Brees with their first and 2nd rounders. damn. what a draft) Aaron rodgers sat 4 years (don't get me wrong, sanchez is not aaron rodgers) and while he played great starting in his 5th year, it took him a year or two more to get to the level he's been playing at. Big ben is another example. Rivers didn't even start a game until his 3rd year and he had recording breaking LT running for him then. perspective is important. a 13 to 7 int ratio halfway through his 3rd year is actually RIGHT where a lot of these great QBs i mentioned ended up in their 3rd/4th year in the league. and none of them had 4 playoff wins on the road. if sanchez has a 3600 yard, 26 td and 14 int season; that's pretty good. Considering we play a lot of sorry pass defense's in the 2nd half of the season, that number might even be better.
First of all I count unforced fumbles as a big mistake. Don't you? Your last paragraph is crap. Ftr Brady has thrown it a lot more than Sanchez, and he clearly is having for him a bad year. So? I also was disappointed since I had noted that he only had one INT in the three previous games. The refs also overturned what to me looked like a second INT, so there you had the Jets Qb a questionable overturned call away from three turnovers in the first half. I appreciate that was a tipped pass, too, not the boneheaded throw he made for his first INT. That about covers it.
