I'm really sick of the over protection of quarterbacks. As it stands now, quarterbacks are NOT football players in the traditional sense.
I hear what you are saying but as technological advance were made <cough> <cough> <wink> <wink> they needed to do something to keep quartbacks on the field. But they definitely adjusted to far in the other direction.
How many times does a back pull up from an opportunity of that hit? Zack Wilson would have taken that hit full force with no flag
It reminded me of 5-ish years ago when the whole Jets defense ushered a "scrambling" Tom Brady to a first down because they were afraid to touch him.
How about this one: https://wgnradio.com/sports/sports-...fling-decision-not-to-tackle-patrick-mahomes/
I see it every-single-week. QB's making these 15 or 20 yd. runs because the D knows that if they hit them the way they are SUPPOSED to it will be a 15yd. flag tacked on. So, they let them run and hope to get them out of bound which, even that, is wrought with potential penalties of their toenail crossed the "chalk" so it was a late hit out of bounds. I'm sick of it. My god, could you imagine the numbers from guys like Plunkett, Bradshaw, Tarkenton et. al. if they played in today's game?!? Fran Tarkenton would probably be one of the greatest QB's of all time! Conversely, if you ported Tom "statue" Brady back to the 70's, I don't think he makes it out of year 2 or 3.
100%. Brady definitely benefited from being coddled. Can’t imagine what Steve young’s rushing numbers would be today
