I'd stand by that decision too if Peyton Manning shredded my defense for nearly 80 yards on the two previous, consecutive drives.
I agree, I think it was the right move. The way Manning was playing, especially at home with 2:00 and three timeouts, it didn't matter if they punted him back to the parking lot, he would have come down the field and scored. The only way to win was to get the 2 yards and not give him the ball at all. If anything, giving him the short field might have only let them score faster and left enough time for NE to get a FG, but that didn't happen. I'm not sure about his play calling on 3rd or 4th down or the use of timeouts, but I certainly think going for it on 4th and 2 was their best chance to win the game.
