The Alstott/Neal comparison is not realistic. The Jets obviously want a FB that can block and also run/catch competently. The guy doesn't need to be Mike Alstott to make the team.

Probably Chad Young. But he's the only one I've seen of the UDFA. So there could be somebody just as good.

Wasn't Romo or someone like that a UDFA? Maybe Bart Scott too? I know there's others, so yeah, it's possible to find good players beyond the draft

The only read was that so far Young has looked better than Bohannan.

All of the UDFA's have a real chance to make the team. Most of them won't but you don't take the time and effort to sign a guy and not give him any chance to make the team.

The difference between 5th round picks and UDFA's really is not that big in terms of skills and potential. You don't know what a guy has inside him until you see him compete in camp and on this team at least the competition is going to be real at about a half dozen spots going into camp.

If Kerry Hyder is as good as they're making him sound he'd be a great backup to our D-Line.
Terrence Miller has some serious potential now that we're lining him up at TE.. 6"4, 234lbs.. possible red zone target one day.

Daemon Harrison, Wayne Chrebet, Victor Cruz, Arian Foster, Wes Welker, James Harrison, Antonio Gates, Kurt Warner, just to name a few. Elite NFL teams find talent anywhere and everywhere, including UDFA's. Remember a team doesn't just need superstars, they need role players, depth players, special teamers, etc to be complete. UDFA's also cost basically nothing against the cap, so if you can find someone who has any place on an NFL roster there you did good.

    woah.

I propose trading away our draft every year for like 100 UDFAs!

Haha smartass :p My point is that most people only focus on high draft picks and FA pickups and worry about who can put up the biggest fantasy football numbers. Meanwhile, in the late rounds/UDFA we've gotten huge contributors such as Kerley, Harrison, Allen, Howard, etc just off the top of my head. All these guys have had huge return on investment. Elite teams find talent in these areas.

I agree. I've actually thought about trading a 1st every year to load up on 3rd round pics. No superstars making $20M/yr but zero weaknesses anywhere either. Oh and no 1st round busts!

My guess is not many will make the team. Not sure if u guys saw this from Cimini but we didn't really use any of our udfa budget (only $4,000) out of $80k which implies Idzik probably wasn't high on the overall pool this year. It's not a coincidence that the only udfa being mentioned is the fullback who is one of the only two guys to get any sort of signing bonus. Just given some of the guys who dropped and our lack of depth at offensive line would have preferred to chase some of the guys who had higher draft grades who dropped but that's in the rear view mirror now.

I think the Jets didn't use the UDFA bonus pool much because Idzik really doesn't like to hand out money for nothing and you can't pick out who is going to succeed from that pool of UDFA's. If you could you'd have used a 7th round pick or higher on them.

Add some guys you think have a chance and let them prove it in training camp. No point in handing them money coming in the door because as you say most of the guys are going to wipe out in camp.

we had 12 draft picks. that replaces signing 4-5 udfa's. i think we would have signed more if we were working with 7-8 draft picks but right now we have too many rookies to begin with

I know but you'd think we'd try and steal a few UDFA the Pats really wanted.
