Why are the players complaining then? they know more than any of us what they are playing. showing 4-3 looks and running a 4-3 are 2 different beasts and vilma and Robertson were benched during stretches of the 4th so why would we run a 4-3 w/o them when the 4-3 is suited for them?

The difference between Tomlin and Mangini is that Tomlin inherited a defense that had top notch personnel. Do we have anyone that compares to Casey Hampton, Troy Polamalu, or Aaron Smith? How could you possibly switch to a 4-3 with that personnel? If the Jets switched to a 4-3 who would rush the passer? The same garbage we have rushing from the 3-4 just with less flexiblity in terms of blitzing. We need large defensive lineman and we need pass rushers. It doesn't matter what else you have if your missing those two things.

The 4/3 per say isn't suited for them or not suited for them. They need someone to take on blockers for them period because they aren't physically capable to do it. We simply don't have the bodies to take on blockers and rush the passer because our personal isn't that good.

Our pass rush was completely nullified against the great teams and we had to blitz to obtain the pressure, the type of pass rush that you need to be considered an elite defense is one that could develop pressure without having to blitz, which is why we were never able to beat New England that year, and the hole of DT is the same as it is now, it isn't easy finding pieces that would work when other things later revealed themselves to be have higher priority due to the oline aging like it did in 2005, and our hatred over Brien.

But like I said the defense as a whole has aged since the 2005 season to where we need an new influx of talent anyway since finding a great overall pass rusher is almost as hard as finding a NT, we would be stuck through growing pains whether we stayed in the 4-3 or a 3-4. Honestly I thought it was a bad decision at first switching to the 3-4 but now the way I see it you have more potential to do more with the 3-4 than the 4-3 so it is better to strive for that.

We did everything in that game we ran 4/3, 5/2, 3/4 and we had to run a lot of nickel packages when they went 3 and 4 wide because they have a QB who will kill you if you don't. This is a passing league now, the rules are so in favor of the passing game today you can't defend the entire field without a couple of guys who can rush the QB without blitzing. The difference between defending the Bengals and the Jets is you can defend our passing game with a stacked box to stop the run.

So Mangini can make a point?

The Jets lost in Cincinnati without their best TE and with Vilma and D-Rob and Erik Coleman benched for significant stretches of the game. They had Chad in at QB at the end to throw his obligatory pick 6, even though he has now conclusively demonstrated that that is one of the very likely results when you put him under pressure at the end of the game.

I have to say that Mangini's coaching is looking very inconsistent at this point. In the early 4th quarter they cut to him on the sidelines and he was pulling his headphones off and grimacing after the Mangold bad snap. He put Chad right back out there the next drive and the Jets went three and out. The following drive was the pick 6 and game time.

You have to think that a more experienced head coach would have looked at the Jets recent 4th quarter performances and concluded that Chad needed to get pulled after the bad snap even though it wasn't mostly his fault. The 4th quarter offensive breakdowns this year ARE his fault and Mangini was just blind to that at a critical time in the game.

Kerry Rhodes(he was better than troy last year), Ellis and Robertson)Eillis and Robertson were top players in the 4-3).

That's why we should have stuck w/ it and added players the last 2 ears. we'd be in much better shape on D if that was the case. If we added a couple of more 4-3 players instead of having to add a ton new 3-4 players.

We had a good pass rush that year and whether you need to blitz or not is irrelevant when comparing hat pass rush to this pass rush b/c we are blitzing now and we STILL can't get pressure on the QB. Against NE that year we held the to 13 pts on the road, the O didn't score- it wasn't the D's fault. We had 3 sacks on that 13-7 loss.

Obviously the players have gotten older but heading into last year they were a year removed from being a top 5 D. We still had the talent to run an effective 4-3 and our best players were 4-3 players. it made no sense at the time to make our best defensive players ineffective. Maybe the 3-4 is better over time but they haven't brought in a single difference maker on D since they got here so i don't see it getting better anytime soon.

In the first game of the NE game it was close, in the second game we weren't close, and I am not looking for moral victories to base how to build a team, but that is irrelevant anyway since they are much better now.

You live in the past too much heading into last year our dline already declining, half of our dline from the year you are hyping up was already gone since we were never going to sign Abe no matter what we did with our scheme and we saw the effect of losing Ferguson by getting gashed in the running game over and over again in 2005. We are in need of a rebuild anyway so the few good defensive players that you are talking about that is struggling with the change in scheme, their effect will be nullified.

It's not about moral victories, we are talking about the pass rush and you said the pass rush was nullified against great teams and clearly that wasnt the case.

Abe didn't play down the stretch and in the playoffs and our D was very good w/o him so we had 1 less player from the 2004 posteason D going into 2006. We still had 90% of the pieces in place from that '04 D and our best players we 4-3 guys so why change? We geared this D tward the strengths of ryan Thomas an victor hobson instead of towards Vilma, Robertson and Ellis- dos tha make sensne?

Perhaps the loss of Reggie Tongue is the determining factor?
