And perhaps by next off season that 1, 2, 3 will be different. It's too early to even tell. You are looking at Russell Wilson and Kaepernick in hindsight and judging Geno's future. When you have a line as bad as ours and a depleted WR core, a team learning a new system, it's very difficult to analyze them, plus Kaepernick even had a year to develop on the sidelines, as Geno Smith would have most likely if Sanchez didn't get hurt. Kaepernick, as a rookie would have had just as bad a season as Geno, if were thrown to the wolves right out of the draft on the Jets. I have no doubt about it. Geno could be just as good. Kaepernick could be out of the league in 2 years.

No I am not looking at anything in hindsight. Wilson and Kaep showed IMMEDIATELY the difference in talent level irrespective of the talent around them. I watched Geno a ton in college- saw him live 3 times. They are better throwers, better runners, have higher football IQs- they are simply much more talented quarterbacks.

I hate platitudes but IMHO there is no way Geno ever ever jumps over those guys.

It's all just opinion, but again, if you were to ask non-Jet fans I think they'd agree. Of course there is no way to refute the red herring of "no talent around him" argument, but I think that's a red herring. He's not as naturally or physically or mentally as talented as them.

Not sure about the mental aspect, but he definitely can be just as physically talented as those guys are.

And I'm sorry, but Geno gets a bit of a pass because the talent he had to endure this past season was abysmal.

Please do not call Bill Belicheck a 'nobody'.

Bill is a 'somebody' who got beat in the SB by a #6 seed who barely made the playoffs.

Bill is a 'somebody' who, with an extra week to prepare and playing at home, got bounced from the playoffs by a team he'd just beaten 41-3 a few weeks earlier.

Bill is a 'somebody' who ran the table in the regular season, set all kinds of NFL records, then got beat again in the SB by the same team that beat his ass the time before.

    Stop picking on Bill!

At least be accurate with what you write.

I realize that you're acknowledging that this is all speculation, but it really should be a non factor in trying to compare Geno Smith to these other younger quarterbacks, specifically when two of them are on teams that are in the championship game. Do you really think neither of those teams are playoff calibre with Geno Smith at the helm in either of his rookie seasons? It doesn't really matter because we'll never know.

It should be noted that those two teams use formulas built to sustain success regardless of the quarterback play. Their quarterbacks have played well enough to win playoff games, but then again they gave up 10 & 15 points last week. Most offenses would be able to put up enough points to win these games.

Except he's NOT as physically talented as those guys. Take off your green glasses.

He's not the thrower, the runner, the playmaker, the leader as either of those guys.

You can hope all you want.

    He's just not.

    Lol "can be".

    Yeah, be accurate.

I'm pretty sure the Pats beat us 45-3 before we ousted them from the playoffs.

When did the Patriots lose to a 6 seed in the Super Bowl?

The difference in at least some games this past season is when Smith is your Qb it is not only your D that will give up points. The Jet D and running game are not far off from what SF and Seattle have. Yes the pass D was not as good, and SF might have the best front seven in the game. But where you really have a discrepancy in talent is at Qb.

If Smith were the Qb on either of their teams, they would not have won as many games. Whether both would have still gotten in despite that is beside the point.

Do you guys just hate Geno or what?? Wilson had about 200 more yards and Kaepernick had about 100 more yards than Geno this year. If Geno were on those teams I guarantee they would have the same record or better! I will admit he needs to focus on cutting down his turnovers but with an upgraded cast around him next season; it will be a very good year for Geno and the Jets. Stats don't always tell the whole picture but the most important one of all is WINS and he got 8 his rookie year when the experts all said he'd got no more than 3!

Well, today I'm getting ready to go to a wake for my buddies Mom that just passed away, so bored isn't the exact word.

But what was wrong with my point? A WVU fan GUARANTEEING that had Geno been on the Seahawks or the 49ers that they would have won as many or MORE games than Wilson or Kaep?

I didn't want to call him an idiot, so I poked fun at his misundertsanding of the word "guarantee".

Is your day that boring that you need to police it on behalf of those less able to defend themselves for making silly statements?

Or maybe you just agree with him.

I definitely do not agree with him.

But I'm not itching to start a fight with everyone I don't agree with.

    Just some.

Mocking a silly statement is not "starting a fight".

You seem to not like my posting style.

    Feel free to ignore me.

I thought their first loss to the Giants was when the Giants barely made the playoffs (9-7) as the 6th seed, played all their games on the road, then beat the Pats. The 'David Tyree' game?

Anyway, the internet is no place for accuracy

The NFC 6 seed in 2007 was the Redskins though.

Giants were 9-7 in '11 and won the division, 10-6 in '07 as the 5 seed.
