Exactly that. If the Jets haven't pulled that offer it means it'll always be there. My opinion has always been that the Jets made an offer that is reasonable that Revis realizes is reasonable but he wants to squeeze them for extra cash cus he knows they're not gonna pull that deal. I expect this to be over with in the next couple days. Just my opinion/speculation
I'm one of the idiots that said cave and pay. I wish I was comfortable enough with the current roster to say otherwise, but I'm Not. He is something special and the management made the mistake of acknowledging that; it's time to offer some guaranteed money.
The difference in the way they're handling Revis and VJax makes me think it's done by the end of Labor Day weekend. S&F have VJax out on interviews pleading his cause. He has a legitimate reason to hold out. He can come back next year under a new CBA and be a UFA, get his long term deal. He's not coming back for his tender number. Revis, on the other hand, has much less of a legitimate reason for holding out, and his team knows it. He gains absolutely nothing by holding out for the full season. Aso's contract is off the books, a new CBA is in place, he's a year removed from the game, and the Jets very likely look to deal him to a new team. He's waiting to see if the Jets cave. If they hold tight, he'll be back. The only thing that concerns me is that he holds out into the season. I really don't think he will, but with his agents, it's possible they take that calculated risk.
the problem is guaranteed money 10/120 sounds good but theres no guaranteed.....untill guaranteed money is on the table he wont sign

I think its safe to say that the JETS will not give Revis what he wants (highest paid CB yr). That wont happen, even if we get smoked in the beginning of the season. I also think Revis isn't a smart person because I feel that if he was, he would be at camp right now getting ready for week one and I have a feeling because he does not get what he wants (highest paid CB yr), he will actually sit for the season. Yes, I actually think he will. I say this because he seems very stubborn and so are the people closest to him. I dont need to get discuss his uncle, everyone already knows the story. Also, he would of accepted one of the offers already and would be getting back in shape at camp, ready for week one/season.
I don't know how many times it has been said, this should be in every Revis thread title. They aren't talking guaranteed Money until they agree on total compensation.
I love this thread because it shows Jets Nation is bring to get really frustrated with Revis. If he gets what he wants it will hurst the team for the future. I'd like to see him sit three years and then see what kind of football player he is. He was a crybaby with his rookie contract too. Why couldn't he sit three years if the Jets don't budge? Why should HE force the Jets hands here? One great season and he Is a premadonna. He'll probably suck this year if he played. In my eye he is not proven over time. If he does play this year, or ever I think Jets fans should burn his jerseys in the parkinglot (they could do that anyway) and boo him when he crawls onto the field. When so many of his fans are struggling financially for him to quibble about the numbers he wants. He is not making fans. Revis IS living on an island. His big freaking' head.
And that's something I really don't agree with... I mean, why not discuss guaranteed money while discussing the total compensation of the deal? Something like "If you want 60 mill guaranteed then it's a 120 mill contract, if you're ok with 50 then it goes up to 130 total..."
Apparently that's how Tanny does business. My guess is that the amount of guaranteed money is a percentage of the total compensation.
I don't think an extended Revis holdout that covers multiple games is a calculated risk, I think it's a bungee jump with a fraying set of cords. Once the Jets are firmly dug in Revis power goes almost to zero. At that point he has to plan a long-shot court challenge to the NFL contract system, a challenge that he is almost certain to lose and that if he wins will take years to play out anyway, giving him at best a Curt Flood type pyrrhic victory. The holdout that Revis is currently engaged in was ill-conceived and probably based largely on the fact that Revis and his camp believe that Rex Ryan can't win without him or at least that Ryan believes that. A few wins early in the season and Revis position will just melt under him like a sandcastle in the waves. If I was the Jets right now I'd say that we'd be glad to have Revis back on the team and that the current offer on the table was coming off on Sept 4th. I'd then shut up and let events unfold.
I like WhiteShoeWillie post. It makes the most sense IMO. Revis is acting like he hasn't made any money in the first 3 years of his contract. Dude has made a boatload of money. Mangold and Brick did the right thing and they got there contracts. Next time someone has 3 years left on there rookie contract don't offer to renegotiate, wait till there's one year left and make a deal. Don't negotiate with anyone who doesn't come to camp ( not all origional thoughts but they are pretty good). At this point if I'm Tannenbaum, I send S&F a final offer of 12.5/year with $40 million guaranteed (with language to payback if any further holdouts occur) and tell them to get Revis in camp, or we can talk the next time the NFL plays a season and there's no more r'tard Aso contract out there.
Yes, Revis does hire his agents. He hires them for professional advice in areas that are not his expertise. If Revis had an education with contracts and negotiations he may have handled this himself but he does not so he hires agents to do this for him. It seems Revis made a bad choice in agents but to say the agents should get no blame for this is ridiculous. All you need to do is look down their list of current and former clients.
If Revis would accept the $120 million, the guaranteed money discussion would take a day at most. The problem is that Revis is obviously still asking for $160 million. Let me ask you this - when you buy a car, do you first agree on the price of the car or how much of down payment you are going to put down? What is the point of bargaining over the down payment if one side is offering to pay $25,000 for the car and the seller wants $30,000. Even if they agree on $10,000 down, they are far apart on the key part of the deal - the price of the car. The Jets and Revis do not agree on what Revis is worth and until they reach that agreement, this hold out continues. The guaranteed money issue is a red herring put out there by Revis' agents to try win back some of the PR battle they a losing miserably.
I've gone for trade him as I'm frankly sick of the whole circus and I think it's becoming extremely damaging, but I'd also like to be able to choose the options of burying the agents in cement and liking beer, therefore this is a poll fail.
