But apparently we're keeping him on the 53... unless we need that spot... I would've kept Baker for wk 1 (in case Conner isn't ready) and then re-signed Payne wk 2 while moving Baker to the PS.
Baker is going directly to the PS. However, several teams interested in him. Dolphins being one, not very happy with their backup TE situation right now! And yes, before you ask, I am related to him! KB
TheJetsStream Manish Mehta I've been told the #Jets plan as of right now is to keep LB Matthias Berning, who was a standout last night vs. Eagles. #nyj
We're pretty deep at ILB with Mauga and Bellore both impressive this preseason so this move isn't all that surprising.
Matthias Berning will take a roster spot from Bellore, McIntyre, or Mabin. ...hopefully Bellore is kept though. He has excellent potential at 3-4 ILB.
I've been thinking about this during the early afternoon... It might be a good idea to keep both of the Central Michigan backers because they're most likely on the same page. Berning and Bellore have started next to each other for years. Bringing in quality depth that has instant cohesion is a solid move. It's definitely not the same as a wideout/quarterback relationship, but it will play a factor.
I'd be pretty disappointed if Bellore lost his roster spot to Matthias Berning. As for McIntyre and Maybin, I guess it all depends on whether we'd rather have the STer or the project pass rusher.
I agree that Bellore should make it over Berning, but I don't think they're competing for a roster spot...so we'll see what happens. McIntyre's a project pass rusher as well. In my opinion, he brings more to the table than Maybin. Maybin is clearly more talented though.
As far as Bellore goes, I'd be fairly surprised if he didn't make the roster, the kid seemed to be in the right place at the right time quite a lot this preseason. Also I find myself rooting for Maybin for some reason, think he's got a pretty good shot over McIntyre based on raw talent, since neither of them would be expected to make a big impact on opening day, and Maybin I think still has some room to develop.
Those Chippewas are scrappy and hard working, typical of a lot of MAC defensive players. Players that don't have elite physical talent but work very hard and are smart. There are always excellent high school players here in Ohio, that don't get offers to an elite program and end up at a MAC school.
Agreed. Maybin definitely has more upside but I would prefer to work with McIntyre. Dude has a motor.......
Are you saying that this will help them both improve? Or that this will help them be in synch on special teams? Because if both of them are on the field at the same time, and it's not on teams, then we are already in some trouble.
Since Maybin's been a Jet, he's worked incredibly hard. I have no complaints about his motor as a New York Jet.
What about in practice? If these guys are playing in the same unit as backups, it will only make our depth at the position and our scout team defense better. I'm not expecting either of these guys to make any kind of impact outside of special teams, but their experience playing together can't hurt.
That answers my question, I was wondering if you meant in practice. But cohesion for the scout team, while nice, I imagine is normally not the priority in these sorts of decisions. Also, if Berning made it through waivers and we signed him to the PS, then they could still play together in practice.
I believe Pace or Westerman may be gone if we keep Mauga,Bellore,Maybin and Berning. In addition to McEntyre, two will go on the PS. Mauga amd Bellore should make the 53, but I also like Maybin also. I have not seen Berning but we know Rex likes him. PS Eddie Jones as a project, Rex likes him also.
