I think the idea that no coach will want to come here because of a short leash is ridiculous. Why should a HC who has shown absolutely no growth, improvement, or signs of learning be given another year? There is absolutely nothing to suggest that anything would be any different or any better next year. That's dysfunctional, borderline insane thinking. If anything, Bowles has gotten worse. We've listed his deficiencies countless times. IMO any HC who wouldn't want to come here because an incompetent hack like Bowles was fired and thinks the Jets have too short a leash is too stupid to be a HC. I wouldn't want his sorry ass here.
Woody is known to do this. He kept Rex around at least one season too long which was a total wasted season. I'm not saying it's the smart thing to do but smart and Woody don't go together very often.
We fired our Special Teams coach last year did it get better? Now with a other coordinator spot on the line
The problem isnt Gailey the problem is we dont have a franchise QB.Its embarassing that we have won the divison what?Twice in the history of the franchise?
It was pretty well documented that some candidates didn't want to come here after Rex/Idzik were fired because of the demands of the owner. In both the front office and coaching departments. If I remember correctly up and coming executive Ryan Pace for the Saints didn't even accept an interview for us as he was supposedly the GM in waiting in New Orleans. Less than a month later he signed on with the Bears. Same situation with Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard, Vikings assistant GM George Paton, and Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta. Gary Kubiak declined an interview with us, and later went on coach the Broncos the following season. John Fox declined an interview with us and later went on to coach the Bears. It's no secret that no one with experience wants to work for this buffoon. If we fire Bowles, we're heading in the direction of Browns dysfunction of not giving guys enough time to setup their own culture and they'll simply get fired for a down year despite having no franchise quarterback in sight.
No one wants that job insecurity especially with a stupid rabid fucking fan base that puts up billboards in year two of a four year rebuilding project to get them fired. Jets fans really can't grasp the ripple effect that whole billboard bullshit has had on deterring candidates from ever wanting to come here. Morons.
The scenario I see playing out if the Jets fire Bowles is that their top (and only real) candidate ends up being Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter, who apparently can't get an interview with a real team because his name sounds like he should be smuggling moonshine on the Dukes of Hazzard... ...but instead, he'll choose to stay with the Lions because the Jets are a fucking joke, and they'll hire either a tight ends coach from a "contender" who has "a lot of potential", a college coach who just can't seem to get that SEC job he wants, or a "visionary" young coach from the CFL. SPLASH!
If we're going to fire Bowles and hire an offensive coordinator we might as well wait. There are tons available every offseason that are the flavor of the week that year. This also puts a damper on JBC's head coaching prospects. http://www.local8now.com/home/headlines/49623477.html
