After Darnold, Josh Allen has been my guy all along. And even though I'm afraid he might have the highest bust chance of the first round QB's this year he looks to me like he could be absolutely awesome as well. And if nothing else if the Jets ever need a hail mary to try to get to 6-10 on the year instead of just 5-11 at least you can rest assured this fucker will get it into the endzone.
I am honestly cool with any of the Top 4. After today, I guess I would rank them like this: 1. Darnold 2. Mayfield 3. Allen 4. Rosen Mayfield seems like a total douchebag, but I have a feeling he is going to back-up that confidence. Darnold is going to have a great career. Rosen too if he stays likely. Allen makes you worry as accuracy is so important. I would take a risk on him though. I really hope (if Mac doesn't sign Cousins of course) the Jets find their guy and go get him. Not just sit around at #6 and pick whichever QB is left on the board.
It's interesting, some say not to read to much into the combine but it has definitely swayed the QB standings....Rosen has become the favorite since yesterday with Allen moving up and Darnold dipping. I have liked Mayfield all along and love his confidence and how accurate he is.
Something else to keep in mind John Dorsy Clevelands new GM drafted Patrick Mahomes if I'm not mistaken. Seems he likes big armed QBs....I'm thinking of all the top QBs he will likely be leaning towards Josh Allen. He was also fine with Mahomes sitting for almost the whole season which would benefit Allen.
Rosen wasn’t very accurate in shorts... it’s not a huge problem but considering he was touted as the best pure passer in the draft.. I didn’t see it at the combine... He also throws a very flat ball... I’m a bit concerned at this point in drafting Rosen. Before my only concerns were his injuries but now it’s also his accuracy and touch... He reminded me of Hackenberg out there and that’s not good. Mayfield looked to be the most accurate and had more velocity than I expected. Allen looked to have not only the biggest arm but the most fluid throwing the football and was very accurate.
You may be right about Dorsey's preference for QB types. It would take some research to determine how many QBs he has taken aside from Mahomes. At any rate, I think drafting a QB at #10 and letting him sit for his rookie season is a little different than taking a QB #1 in the draft and letting him sit for a year. I think that could be the HC's decision, not Dorsey's, and the fans may have something to say about that as well. I know that Jets fans would probably riot if Mac takes a QB at #6 and he sits for his entire rookie season. They were on the verge of doing it with Hack.
Very true but as an example just last year Trubisky was going to be on the bench longer as a second over all pick but was forced into playing time because glennon was absolutely garbage. I think if we brought in a vet to let a rookie sit for a few games ....as long as the vet did not look like Glennon the riots may be on the small side lol.
My order of QBs today and it changes quite a bit are: 1. Mayfield 2. Rosen 3. Darnold 4. No other QB worth taking in round one. The top 3 are quite close and there is no can't miss QB. They all have weaknesses in Rosen's pocket mobility and personality, Darnold's lower body mechanic's and Mayfield's height and maturity.
Yes, I'm hoping the combine gives the Browns a false sense of security and they draft Allen with the #1 overall. That would just make things so much easier for the Jets. Allen #1, Barkley #2, Chubb #3, the Jets would be golden and have no need to trade. Allen was good in the combine, but keep in mind it's much different when you have a defense in your face, and he had accuracy issues in the actual games. The Combine is completely about athleticism, but doesn't come close to defining them as players. I prefer an accurate passer over a rocket arm. This is why Mayfield and Rosen are at the top for me.
Man, if the draft fell that way, it wouldn't even matter so much if Cousins signed with the Vikings, the Jets would still get one of Mayfield, Rosen and Darnold. That would be a dream come true as long as Denver picked Darnold and left the Jets Mayfied and Rosen.
My order of QB preference, assuming we can't land Cousins: 1A) Allen 1B) Mayfield 2) Darnold Wouldn't take any other QB in round 1. Chances are one will be available, so I wouldn't trade up unless they had a much higher grade on 1 in particular.
What could be more interesting (& not completely far-fetched) is if Barkley & Chubb go #1 & #2. It's more likely NYG moves down, but if they love Chubb, he likely doesn't fall past Indy. If all QBs are still on the board at #3, Indy is getting a ton of offers.
Combine ball velocities are out. A bunch of huge armed QBs. 60 (Pat Mahomes) was the previous fastest since 2014 - according to Ben Allbright’s QB spreadsheet. Josh Allen breaking the record by 2 MPH isn’t surprising. Josh Rosen being up there isn’t surprising. Mayfield being at 60? What a shocker. People keep saying that the ball jumps out of his hands in person but I was not expecting it to be that strong. I’m fully on board with trading up for him as far as we need to. BTW, throw out Jackson’s number. It’s clear he was aiming the ball in an attempt to display improved footwork/mechanics. I suspect that might be what happened to Watson last year too.
