    R.I.P. David Bowie

    Wow. Damn

I picked it up on your recommendation right after viewing that, and Lazurus. It had an ominous feel to it too for me.....Man

That dude sounds a bit like John Mayer--especially the first song.

That's a good thing, mind you.

Never got the John Mayer vibe from them. Though I do like Continuum.

Umphrey's are more or less a jam band in the vein of Phish but venture out a bit more. They have improvised jams they dub, "Jimmy Stewart" and sometimes these turn into songs, sometimes they just remain jams. They do a lot of covers of classic rock, but also just covered Cantina Band from John Williams

The John Mayer Trio "Try" live album. That first song sounded just like him.

I dig this guy but only the live stuff. The studio recordings sound too over-produced

Lol I always thought the NRPS was a southern rock band like Pure Prarie League or Marshall Tucker Band or the like.

Didn't realize until after he died that Jerry Garcia was one of the founding members and some of the band members went on to start The Grateful Dead.

The Dead were formed already when the NRPS formed. Garcia helped kick them off while he was trying his hand at the pedal steel guitar at the time, and contributed with that instrument. I believe one or two members of the NRPS had contributed in an early studio album by the GD before the NRPS were formed.

Here he is playing PS guitar, and everything else but drums, on his first solo album.

While we're on this theme, this is another one I bought because the cover caught my eye, but for a different reason (two actually). Interesting tidbit, Jerry Garcia considered this the best thing he ever recorded.

    Here you go B.

Malian Ali Farka Toure, with American's Ry Cooder, and Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown on violin

    Down home blues
