Dude, SR, please stop. You're listing a bunch of emo, metalcore, and post-hardcore bands. Muse is the only group deserving any respect out of these. You said you knew a bunch of groups that arent mainstream that dont suck, but so far Muse is the only band youve listed that's actually decent, and as far as I know theyre actually rather wellknown. Which isnt to say that all mainstream acts suck either, but rather that you're not doing a good job proving your point. I never asked you to give me a list, but now that you have, it doesnt really do anything for me but reaffirm what I previously thought

In all fairness, ur kinda be a dick, and i dont no if u intend it to be that way but your basically saying "Death Metal, or it sucks." when there are other good bands out there that aren't death metal. Maybe thats not how u mean your post to come off as, and im just reading it that way

Well, I like plenty of other stuff besides "death metal", but thats far from the point. I dont respect many of these metalcore bands, for many reasons. They may know how to play their instruments, but it extends far beyond that. Many of them are plagiarists that have made a living stealing their riffs off the seminal Gothenburg bands of the 90's. And now they're making money popularizing riffs that arent theirs. I can't respect a band like that. Thats probably the biggest grievance I have against em. There are other things I dont like, but I dont wanna hijack this thread into a "crusade against metalcore" either.

You know, I always wondered why they chose Gothenburg to rip off. It's so formulaic and doesn't really leave much room for innovation. Plus it died a while ago and there wasn't any need to revive it (don't tell Arsis though).

If metalcore wanted to rip off any genre it should have been grind. You can do whatever you want w/ grind.

By the way, the list of underground bands posted a few pages back was pretty damn funny. Muse and death cab as underground, hahaha.

Yeah, but what would they call it? Grindcorecore? :breakdance: I guess they chose melodeath because, out of all death metal's subgenres, it seems to be the most accessible. And Im surprised you think the Gothenburg scene is dead, it actually seems, at least to me, that there are alot of rather similar Gothenburg bands saturating the market nowadays

Gothenburg refers to the melodic death metal stuff. Dark Tranquility, Soilwork, At The Gates, Arch Enemy, and stuff like that. If you're not familiar with it, check out Heartwork by Carcass, which is IMO the greatest melodeath album of all time
