The messiah QB thing is overrated. Hey, Matty Ice is a miracle worker. He also has Michael Turner running the ball. Penny was a messiah QB back when MIA was running the ball well. They got around 50 yds rushing today and like magic Penny isn't good anymore. Out of KC, Ratliff and Ainge at least one has to be good enough to win with good coaching and talent around them.
Brett Ratliff could be a solid QB if given the chance. I really hope the Jets do not deal him or let him go. He could be something special one day. He looked excellent in the pre-season and there's always reports of how great he looks in practice and training camp. Clemens has had little success and looked terrible the times he played this pre-season and in week 3 when he came in late for Favre when he should have been playing his best to prove that he is still our future at QB.
That is the biggest part of the Favre folly. That is what drives me crazy about the trade and why it was a bad idea from the beginning.
This year should have been the year Ratliff (or even Clemens if we had to) got to mature behind a good O-line and a running game. The Jets, if they act as expected, will plug in another aging veteran at the spot. I really think Ratliff has good stuff- I've watched him for two years in a row at training camp. Last year, I didn't really notice him but he was much better this offseason. He's also got momentum with him, that Cleveland game is tough to ignore.
Why bring in a veteran? So we can throw another year away? The only way you can tell if a QB can play is to play him in games that count. Bringing in a veteran is the worst thing the Jets can do at this point. Then next year we are back where we are right now. You have to take your lumps with a young QB at some time. It should have been this year. Now it HAS to be next year. Otherwise, you are just spinning your wheels. This team is not going to the SB with some veteran trash like Garcia or Anderson, so suck it up and let's see if any of the kids can play.
Ya know the first post I ever put on this site was back in 2006 regarding the same subject. Three seasons later here we are. Hopefully the Front office and coaching staff will get it before we are sitting here having the same conversation again in 2012.
I don't think Clemens got a fair shake. I am not anointing him as a star or anything, but you need to give the kid a chance behind an O-line that can actually protect the QB. He started what, 5-6 games so far? and we want to call him a bust? The kid couldn't even get to a 3 step drop before getting laid out last year.
I disagree. Why bring in another vet QB so they can stay for a year and hinder the progress and evaluation process of the QB's we have right now. Might as well see what you got and if they suck move on. Who would you want to bring in anyway? Kerry Collins?
