It's too bad, he was dangerous that one year with the Browns. He could run like a truck, and catch out of the backfield. He was a real throwback. The curse lives on.
I thimk he could help us. Our ground game scares no one and Geno needs a ground game to take the pressure off the passing game that MM seems to be in love with.
I agree. Even if it's insurance until Goodson is up to speed for a few weeks. Ivory was looking good last week, and they pulled him out when he was getting hot in my opinion. It's one thing to have a backfield by committee, but they need to get a better feel for substitutions. Perhaps they are trying to keep him healthy. BUT, what's the point if he isn't helping us win games (especially a division game).
The problem is Bilal Powell is superior in pass protection so he has to come in and play, if Ivory showed he was good enough in pass protection he would be in more consistently. I do think the Jets should have still tried to run it a bit more last week, we'll see how this week goes.
I hate that Ivory seems to be on a pitch count. If we want him to be as effective as possible, we need him to get 20 carries a game. He needs that fourth quarter to be all his. Injuries are a concern, but it's a risk we have to take if we want an effective ground game.
The problem is Marty Morninweg. People want to annoint him the savior, but he pretty much admitted this week that he doesn't like to run the ball. It doesn't matter who we have at RB. He is going pass-happy all day long.
Yep. I like Morty, it's definitely nice to see a new offense that works. McCoy didn't even average 20 carries there, and he's a dynamic back. That said, we shouldn't be surprised. Powell is indeed the better pass blocker AND receiver, so that is going to effect Ivory's playing time. It's just frustrating because they knew this when they traded for Ivory. Common sense though...when something is working, you shouldn't get away from it until the defense makes changes to stop it. The Jets should know all too well about trying to play throw for throw with Brady, it never works. I had a hard time with the offensive gameplan last Thursday. Let's see how things progress moving forward.
Ivory is still learning the playbook most likely cause of his missed time. If you cant trust him with blocking asdignments you cant throw him out there in the 4th
Very good point. He has some issues receiving from what I hear as well. Hopefully powell develops some more. He is the most complete back on this team. The Jets have really suffered from the loss of Tomlinson as a receiving back. They simply have gotten ZERO production from RB's in the receiving game since he left. They really relied on that when Sanchez was developing. I'm glad that Powell was named the #1 RB. He played the best in preseason and it shows a new turn for the organization. No more holding faith to players because of contracts, draft status etc.
If he doesn't know the playbook by now, he doesn't belong in the NFL. I doubt that is the issue. The guy has been with the team since the end of April. The thing we were getting at earlier is that the Jets didn't need to pass in the 4th, they were down by 3. Run the ball (which was effective), and keep it away from Brady. So he very well could have been playing. However, he did fumble. Maybe that is why he was pulled? I totally forgot about that.
theres a difference between studying the playbook and learning it on the field. this isnt high school. you cant just put the ball in someones hands and say run it through the a gap, nor can you just put him out there to block whoever comes free. ivory has missed practice time, and likely has trouble picking up the blocking scheme and or making the right adjustments on the field. martys playbook is complex and requires a lot of on the field thinking. its not so simple that somebody can study the playbook and jump right in is all im saying. theres no way marty doesnt want ivory in the game more, it makes it less obvious that its a run when ivory is on the field, and makes the defense think if its a pass play. i havent been posting on jets boards for too long, but the pattern is just so easy to see. hindsight is 20/20, but if the receivers make a few plays then nobody says anything about the gameplan. this is a passing offense, and a damn good one. just be happy we no longer have a scheme so worn out that high school secondaries could defend it.
i believe ivory went out with injury today, saw him grab his hammy at one point and dont remember him ever coming back in. any word on what is up with him or did i just not see him.
ESPN is reporting that he'll be out for a while, after "tweaking" his left hamstring: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/27774/long-recovery-expected-for-ivory I was really hoping that he would get on a roll.
Help is on the way in the form of Goodson within the next 2 weeks. Hopefully Ivory is back for when we really need him.In late November/December.
