Well if you read the entire thing I try to respond to all of these inquires like the salary cap and so on and so forth... Looks like it was you...
How many have there been? But I ask again, if last years draft yielded us J. Cutler as you know him to be now, and B. Edwards as you know him to be now, and every other pick in that draft was a complete bust, how would you rate that draft?
Well that would mean we had two top 12 draft picks. Pretty much what we would have to pay in this madden type trade.
I would love to see if these two guys end up getting traded, so we can see exactly what the price was and then revisit this crazy scenario and see if I was this completely out of line. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box. Yes on initial thought the idea sounds insane... but, you never know.
That's the point! They don't do them because it's stupid. On top of that a bunch of late round picks isn't going to get us Edwards and Cutler!!! That draft is unrealistic. How do you know Ratliff and Nicks wouldn't be a great combo?!?
That's an amazingly dubious claim. Sorry, but your post is riddled with exaggeration. Braylon Edwards almost got traded for a starting defensive end (Mathias kiwanuka of the Giants- not even their best defensive lineman) and a 4th round pick. Cutler would probably cost something like a 1st, 3rd, clemens and possibly a conditional pick or two. (Or Something like that). I don't think either trade is likely but let's not make verifiably preposterous posts just to ridicule a potentially overzealous idea.
I don't... but even though I am very high on Ratliff and would love to see what he can do, I would have to step aside and take a proven player any day considering that said proven player is young. I'm not a fan of getting an old guy just cause Ratliff hasn't done much.. I'd rather see what he's got to offer than get someoen like Garcia or whatever... but if I have to choose between Cutler and Ratliff, I'd certainly take Cutler.
I actually don't think your idea is as insane as everyone else seems to think it is (hence my previous post defending you) on this board. I don't think either trade will happen but I don't think your idea is "asinine" as most here seem to feel.
I'll have to revisit this when I'm on my computer. But think Ratliff and Nicks and still a draft to fill more needs and establish depth
Thanks. I got that impression from your previous post and I appreciate the well written defense Initially the idea does sound crazy, but after seeing what I thought were very good players go for much less then what I would've thought initially I feel that while the idea or approach is certainly a bit outside the box, it is still within the bounds of realism... not by much, but I think there's a place for it
I'd certainly love for Ratliff to work out, because what I've seen so far has made me believe in him, even though it hasn't been much and it was pre-season, but I truly think he will win the battle against Clements and we'll get a good evaluation on his capabilities... unless his work last year was just a complete fluke... who knows. I don't know too much about Nicks, or how likely he is to fall to us at our spot, and it's even hard to say if we're going to actually grab a WR in the 1st with this draft. I would not be shocked if we went D-line instead.
Because neither of them are rumored to be on the trade block where B. Edwards and J. Cutler have been rumored to be available for trade...
i hate how everyone is exaggerating the situation with claims like....lets go back in time and draft every hall of famer.... the trade could be pulled off. were talking about an pro bowl qb.....and pro bowl wr. they are both young. a 1st and third and clemens for cutler is pheasable. a second and a fourth is pheasable for edwards. it is unlikely to happen but it is at least possible. so to actually answer the question...id be very happy to give up this years draft for those two players
Braylon wouldn't cost nearly that much. A first is way too much to ask for him. He could very well be moved for a 2nd and like a 6th if hes going to be moved. As for Cutler, weren't they willing to move him for pick 33 and Matt Cassell? Well, an offer of pick 17, Saints 3rd, and Kellen Clemens could provide similar value, especially with the situation apparently worsening hurting Cutler's trade value. I'm not saying either of these will happen, I highly doubt it, but it is possible.
Our 1st rounder and Brett "Second Coming" Ratliff for Cutler. A 3rd rounder, 7th rounder, 26th rounder, and Kurt Sohn for Braylon. A 4th rounder, Thomas Jones, a 1998 Honda Accord, and a hand-job personally delivered by Tannenbaum for Julius Peppers and Jonathan Stewart. We can get this done, goddammit!
If we traded for Jay Cutler and Braylon Edwards we probably wouldn't have a day one draft pick til 2013
