that's a fact. That's why I'm saying I believe he'll be open to signing a lower prove-it-deal unlike Fitz. my last part of the post was just a little piece of mind.
Kirk Cousins will be in play...Do we want to go down that bridge over a decent Geno? I dont want to get hoodwinked here with a strong performance by a guy in contract year who has been mediocre for the most part
Yes we do! The last time Geno played Baltimore they were ranked 12th in points allowed and Baltimore won 19-3. Now they are ranked 9th. Ron
There's 10 games left. If he has a winning record over those 10 games, then I can see offering him a 1 year, upper level backup contract (<=$5mil) & allowing him to compete for the starting job. Unless he goes on some 8-2 or better tear, nobody is offering him starter money.
If he plays well he will leverage that with another team. What makes you think he would ever come back to the Jets?
I have 2 issues with the responses so far: 1. The thread is clearly about "what if" he plays well....IF he plays well for the rest of the season you're not going to stop rooting for the Jets if they keep him LOL. We all know it's a long shot 2. People are putting everything into what kind of stats he puts up...I think it will need to go beyond that...Does he look like an NFL QB that can possibly lead the franchise is a more important question than just what his stats look like, good or bad Either way, I voted for a prove it deal...Ideally we could place a tag on him (not franchise but something lower where we could match any offers) Let's hope it comes to that, but it's not very likely
What if Geno plays well for an extended period of games? What if the sun splits into two, which one will the earth orbit? What if Abyzmul becomes a polite liberal? All of those three are equally likely.
How about we let all the QBs pick a number and who ever has the biggest number gets the starting job for that week.
Well, the Jets schedule gets significantly easier through the next month. It wouldn't be that surprising to see Geno have some success, but I'm just not buying it. Maybe he will get reps with the 1s in practice this week and be better prepared for this game, but this team is too flawed now to really make a difference. If the Jets can figure out the secondary issues, they have a chance, but many things have to go right. If Geno does perform well, he should get a prove it deal, unless he blows everyone away and starts throwing 2-3 TDs per game, but the chance of that happening is very low, in my estimation and for the future I look more toward Petty.
Doesn't matter what stats he puts up. Let's say he gets the start against the Ravens (on a short week he's the only guy with snaps) and runs amok in a good way. We've all been on the Genocoaster and he'll occasionally have games like this i.e Dolphins '14 or Falcons '13 as well as games like the Bills/Harvin game. So it's on to Cleveland where we'd expect Petty to play as its the easiest game on our schedule. It also gives him a decent run against beatable teams headed into the bye after which the Pats and Rexbowl awaits If for some 'same old jets' reason we decide that Petty's debut is against the Patriots, then it really doesn't matter if Geno is playing pro-ball football as it will be caveated by the fact its against teams that we could probably beat if we kept playing Fitz! If somehow Geno is still under centre and beating up the Pats, Bills and showing his ability as a starter then some other team will take the plunge on him and he'll leave us (knowing he'd only be warming the seat for Hack if he stayed) and we'd then be left with a QB room containing no experience and we'll be required to find someone with a bit of experience. So is there a veteran QB out there who; 1. Is familiar with Gaileys sytem. 2. Has had some success within that system. 3. Is a good character who could command the respect of the locker room. I can only think of one of the top of my head.
Regardless of how poorly he plays he will still be a solid #2 in case shit happens next year for petty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fitz will be gone so going into the off-season, it's going to be just Petty and Hackenberg. Hackenberg will still be developing so we still need a non-rookie. IF, and only IF, Geno plays really well, give him a one year prove it deal. If he shows nothing the rest of the year, get rid of him and I have no idea from here on. If he does okay, keep him as a backup for Petty as he already knows the system and will be cheaper than other options. If he does well, let Petty back him up.
Geno will be what he's always been and that's a QB with all the talent but none of the brains to be a successful QB. Romo will be the starter next season, at least for a game or 2 before he's on IR.
Mathieu an overrated safety? For the record he was playing nickel corner on that play. Which tells me that you don't know shit about football and therefore your points aren't worthy of taking seriously. Also, Fitzpatrick doesn't even give the receiver a chance at that ball on that fourth down. He's either sacked or can't get the ball there with his noodle arm. So I guess "tank mode" means let's just lose every game and get a high draft pick, no interest in seeing what pieces are actually worth keeping around? Go root for another team, fans like you are why Jets fans are a known laughing stock.
