At this point barring injuries Im about ready to say. Fuck you Fitz, you overplayed your hand. I'm investing the 12M elsewhere.
I'm pretty sure that with an entire offseason consisting of OTA's, training camp & a full preseason of work that our offense shouldn't miss a beat this up-coming season under a 4th year player in Geno Smith (when compared to Fitz of last year). Lets be truthful and fair; It's not exactly easy when missing some of camp, the entire preseason along with the first 7 weeks of the regular season... followed by then being called upon to play on the road come week 8 @ Oakland (off the bench) once Fitzpatrick left the game after only 5 pass attempts. In a nutshell, that's pretty much what took place & happened with Geno Smith during his 1st & only game of last season. One game isn't enough for even a small sample size but Geno himself, during his only opportunity last year; didn't drop the ball. He was actually able to not only shake off the rust but also perform during his only game of 2015. Did we lose the game on the road @ Oakland? Yes. But it wasn't because of Geno Smith, the kid actually played pretty solid football. We lost because of our defense on that day. Geno actually went 27/42 (64.3%), 2 TD's/1 INT, threw for 265 yards/ran for another 34 yards (2 attempts) with a QB rating of 87.9 along with 4 plays of +20 yards. 4 scoring drives (2 TD's & 2 FG'). On a day where Chris Ivory had his worst performance of the year I'd say that Geno actually did more than just enough to win the game. He even got both Marshall (9 receptions/108 yards) & Decker (6 reception/60 yards/1 TD) involved within the game. Geno could've/should've put up even stronger offensive numbers if not for our defense not being able to get off the field. Carr picked us apart to the tune of 23/36, 333 yards & 4 TD's/0 INT's while Murray ran all over us for 113 yards off 20 carries. If our defense would've had it's typical game Geno goes 1-0 during his first & only game. There was no offensive drop off in production whatsoever in regards to the passing game with Geno under center. It was only 1 game off the bench. Too small of a sample size to hold any weight/true value but with OTA, Training Camp & a preseason of full offseason reps under Chan Gailey... I wouldn't overlook Geno having a breakout season alongside a trio of Forte, Marshall & Decker to go along with the likes of role players such as Powell, Amaro, Smith, Peake & Thompkins (who put up 6 receptions/41 yards with Geno @ Oakland last year).
Fitz benefited from throwing to Marshall and Decker. Geno was always throwing to retreads. Fitzpatrick career is a journeyman at best and he choked the final game against the bills (actually both games against the bills). With the jets schedule this year the playoffs are a longshot. I say pull the offer to Fitz and go with Geno. Petty, and Hack. Everyone knows the jets are planning to start Hack in 2017 and beyond anyway, and resigning Fitz would only be for one year.
I'm stealing this from turnonthejets.com, but they do a great analysis of Geno vs. Fitzpatrick. Geno is a better athlete, but Fitzpatrick gets sacked less. Read their article for more details: http://turnonthejets.com/2016/06/genofitz-post-new-york-jets/#more-32326
And he insists on naming every player like we don't know who our starting WRs and RBs are or who our role players are. It's tedious. Same dude that ultimately gets banned from every other Jets site. _
I like your analysis of Geno and the Oak;land game. Carr not only picked apart the defense, but for some odd reason Marcus Williams was playing safety that day and seemed lost. Also, Cromartie didn't even bother to TRY to tackle Crabtree on one long TD--Probably worried that if he tried to make the tackle, he might not be able to support his 12 kids with 9 or so women or whatever the number is up to now.
Marcus Williams was at safety that day because Calvin Pryor went down the week before and the Jets were trying to get a young guy who was over-producing on the field since they had no other options they were particularly high on at the position. Later in the season Rontez Miles got a shot there but at that time the Jets wanted to get Williams more snaps because he was really productive in the dime set. Williams may well wind up playing FS for the Jets in a year or two. He's got excellent eyes in the backfield and when he's playing off his man he makes some plays.
Really? Where does this shit come from? Reports from the OTAs haven't indicated a lot of NFL caliber passes thrown but he's the guy next year? Come back to reality.
I'd rather take it from the coaches and players: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/article81425327.html That article is more encouraging, if you are a Geno fan, than anything put up by the talking heads. Personally, Fitz can go find another team... If he's willing to take less to "spite" the team then f'off and do it! You aren't going to get an argument from we average folk. Go risk getting hurt for less money...no skin off my nose. Judging from what his teammates are saying it sounds as if Geno will be just fine under center this year. He also wouldn't be the first guy to take a few years for it all to make "sense."
Your source is the Miami Herald. Still trying to figure out whether they actually think Geno's good because he plays well in Week 17 Dolphins matchups.
I'm not a big fan of Fitz, but I'm glad to see you stopped pretending to be an ex-NFL player and found a different tactic. Even if that tactic is totally retarded.
<sigh> A dumbass comment...do you EVER bring anything normal to a conversation... My deepest apologies for you being abused as a child and thus have resulted to being a Criminal Minds reject.
Yeah, they see poise and confidence while Smith is wearing shorts and a red shirt. I am not impressed. And where in hell did Fitzpatrick taking less to spite the Jets come from?
Hey, remember that one time you sent an IM to a guy on this forum the guy totally vouched for you and you somehow totally fooled everyone here into thinking you were once an NFL player? Without ever providing proof to anyone? And remember all of those years that you were just given that credit because of that one instance? And constantly referred to yourself as former NFL player? Hey Mezz, prove it or you've been a fake for fucking 10 years.
Wait, have you not seen those passes the beat writers have posted on their tweets? The guy looks like Aaron Rodgers. Crisp, accurate, the rush in his face...oh wait a minute. He's just throwing practice passes with no defenders. And no pass rush. _
