What I like about Darnold is that he's only 20, soon to be 21. There's still an incredible amount of room for growth. But you're point is good; Darnold is not ready and will prolly need a good amount of time to work on his basic fundamentals as well as learning the in and out's of being an NFL QB behind a guy like McCown. He is not playing right away, maybe garbage time at the end of the year. I'd be happy if we ended up with him tho.
His upside is intriguing for sure. But, if Rosen is also available at 3, I'd pick Rosen because he can play right away and his ceiling is Peyton Manning IMO. Whether he reaches that level of dominance is unknown, but it's too good to pass up for me.
I like Rosen too, but his ceiling may be all white with him on his back attached to monitors of a Hospital bed...that's why Mac has to pick a OL along with Rosen at some point in the draft ..that decision is tied to one another imo or else this team is flirting with disaster
I would be. Briefly. Then I would move on and embrace Broadway Baker. Hoping he succeeds. Then 2-3 years later, re-evaluate and see how the 4 guys are doing. He could turn out to be the best of the 4 in the end. We will see. Wait. In this scenario the Browns take Allen right? So The Jets would have Darnold and Rosen available and would choose Mayfield over them? Yes, I would be disappointed. I watched both of those games and Darnold's O-line was terrible in those 2 match-ups. I liked the effort Darnold gave in both though.
If Darnold makes it to 3 it’s as easy a decision as draft decisions go. Unfortunately I don’t see both the Browns and Giants passing on him and Mac will have to make a tough decision between Rosen & Mayfield.
I would be shocked if Darnold is available at 3. If he doesn't go to Cleveland at 1, he will certainly go second to either the Giants or a team selling the farm to the Giants to pick him ahead of us. if he is there at 3 though, you have to take him
Whoever they draft, if it isn't a hit, they will be gone. That goes for all the QBs. They need to get it right.
They do need to get it right, so if Darnold / Rosen is available you take them and let Mayfield be someone elses' problem.
You draft the highest rated QB you have on your board. They better know by now who they like best. As others have said it will be judged on how well said drafted QB performs.
If we let Mayfield go to the Bills or Dolphins, he'll be OUR problem. I'm not saying take him over the other two btw, just saying Mayfield has star potential and the last thing we should hope for is him landing in the AFC East.
ALL of the QBS have star potential! Leonard Williams will smash that boy to the ground. Baker Mayfield - "I have an army" Jets - "We have Leonard Williams" Just prepping my Avengers quotes for next week.
I think Mayfield's is higher than all the others. He's got that "take the league by storm" potential between his personality and his talent.
Well I absolutely disagree on that, I have him 4th in terms of potential. Perhaps in 5 years he and Paxton Lynch can create a bro band for that personality that everyone seems to love.
Bad comparison, Mayfield was the best QB in the country for a few years. Lynch was barely noticed until he was a junior.
Totally misread what I meant, Jesus. I said they both have bro personalities that everyone loved, so they can create a bro band. And Baker was the best MAYBE this year, but he wasn't last year and he wasn't the year before that. A lot of good QB play in college this year.
