Jets are a third rate organization which, at this rate, will never have a chance to hire an established and successful coach and/or GM. The Jets are simply a "no fly zone" (and have been for quite some time) when it comes to quality successful coaching and management candidates. Regardless of their young age, the Jets are an extremely undisciplined team (how many idiotic bonehead penalties and turnovers did they have Thursday?) which all falls on the coaching staff. They win their opener over a pathetic team and they 're talking about a change in culture already. What a joke.

Last week this was premature. This week no matter what happens the whole four years needs to be looked at and as of today I say a house cleaning needs to happen. To get on the right track this orginization needs to find the next great offensive mind. Look at how many 400 yards qbs there were this week. We keep taking defensive players and defensive coaching. Time to catch up with the times. The game is offensive. Who should we start looking at? Four names come to mind.

    1. Lincoln Reilly Oklahoma: Did an amazing job with Mayfield and now is having another great offensive year. He will be a hot candidate. Does he want to run this train wreck?

    2. Lafleur OC Tennesse. QB coach with the Rams last year. Learned from McVay. Now with Tennessee. They looked great yesterday. I like the connection the McVay.

    3. David Shaw: Stanford HC. Doesn't seem to want to come to the NFL and if he did why the Jets. Coach and qb killers.

    4. John Defillipo. Minnesota OC. Coached with the Jets before. Was Wentz's qb coach. Doing good with Cousins.

1, 2 and 4 I think would be good fits for us. Shaw I like but doesn't seem interested in making the jump. Reilly I wonder his thinking. Does he like college and stay there or does he want to try the NFL. Lafeur and Defillipo interest me and I want to see how the rest of the year goes but I think they would be interested help Darnold and elevate us. I know more will pop up but this is a start.

I'd be ok with any of those 4. All of them are offensive HC's or OC's who have played a role in developing QB's which is what we badly need right now.

The answer is in Quantum Computers. Woody should create a grant and donate the Jets draft and cap management along with the teams play calling to the next generation of computing. It's probably still a decade away. Darnold will still be in his prime.

I like your thinking and approach, but think that it's too early to list Lafleur and Defilippo as candidates. They just haven't had enough experience. You're on the right track however, for the type of HC prospects for which Chris should be looking.

Reilly - I think Reilly would be a potentially great choice, but I would be shocked if he left Oklahoma. He has a great situation, program, tons of support, and hasn't he already been extended? He's had 7 years experience as an OC and proven himself, and this is only his second season as a HC. It's a little early for him, but still, if I'm Chris Johnson, he would be at the top of my list of collegiate HCs after Harbaugh and any other worthy former NFL HCs with a background in offense.

Lafleur - I didn't know anything about Lafleur other than what you wrote about him, so I looked him up. He sounds promising, but imo it's too soon to even think of considering him as our HC. He has never been a HC at any level. That is a BIG disqualifier/nonstarter for me. IMO that's grasping at straws a little. He appears to have good experience as a QB Coach and a little experience as OC, but he didn't even call plays with the Rams last year. This is his first year calling plays. IMO he is someone that Bowles should have given serious consideration to hiring as our QB Coach/Assistant OC to work with our QB. He has worked with Cousins before, and we tried to land Cousins. If we didn't land Cousins (which we didn't), then he would be good to work with the QB we drafted.

Shaw - I like him as well, but doubt he would come to the NFL. He seems to think that he is best suited for the collegiate game, and if so, he's probably right.

Defillippo - I see that a number of posters have proposed him as our next HC, but he's only been a QB coach. He's a novice OC this year with the Vikings. IMO it's way premature to even begin considering him as a possible HC candidate. He needs to have at least 4-5 years experience as a successful OC before being seriously considered as a HC prospect. Again, he's had no experience as a HC, and with his having so little experience as an OC, I wouldn't have any interest in him at this point.

The only two here I'd consider are Reilly and Shaw (in that order).

There have to be some other good young OCs in the NFL who have more experience as an OC and QB coach, who may even have some experience as a HC in the collegiate ranks.

I echo NC's concerns about the candidates you suggest, although I fully agree that we need to get a modern, offensive-minded HC. However, I want them get somebody who has been a HC, at least in college. But really the first step has to be making sure whoever selects this guy knows what he's doing. Is Macc the guy to do that picking? It sure isn't the Johnsons! It brings me back to my belief that they need to hire a Pres. of Foot ball Ops now. Maybe if they could get Harbaugh as HC thta would negate having to replace Macc or having toe hire this mythical P.O.F.O,, but he sure won't leave before the end of the season unless he's fired, so what's the timetable?

Bottom Line: I's sick of this mrry go round of losing and ineptitude and want it fixed NOW.

You're probably right, but as the saying goes "If you don't ask (or demand), you don't get". As long as this team continues to perform this way, the fans need to let the Johsons know they don't accept it.

I doubt if we could get him, especially since the dissing he feels he got when Parcells didn't take him, but how about getting Manning as Pres. of Football Ops, and give him a minority stake too?

I agree that these would be among the best candidates for our (eventual) HC opening. All would be very beneficial to Darnold's development IMO.

On Reilly, I would be surprised to see him leave Oklahoma, and I've seen several links for him to the Cowboys, so I'm not sure we would be a top choice for him.

Lafleur is also a great shout. I will be watching to see how Mariota progresses throughout this season in his offense. IIRC tho, i think this season is his first one actually calling plays (think McVay called the plays in LA when he was there).

As you said with Shaw, I highly doubt he will leave and I'm not quite sure that we would be the top choice if he wanted to jump in the NFL.

I've been banging the drum for DeFilippo for a while now, and I think out of the 4 coaches listed here he would be the most realistic (also my personal 1st choice). He has experience with young QBs like Wentz. He also has some experience as an OC before (in college and with the Browns with Manziel). I will be surprised if he doesn't end up with a HC role at the end of the season if the Vikings offense continues to be potent.

Another option could be Mike McCoy, who is now the OC in Arizona. Fits the experienced HC role, but I'm not quite sure how well he did. Also not sure if he would want another HC role or would just prefer to stay an OC.

Also, I'm not quite sure why everyone is so sure that Jim Harbaugh would leave his Alma mater after only a couple years. He would pique my interest, but still I'm skeptical of his interest of returning to the NFL yet. (if someone has some kind of links to past quotes of his feel free to post them)
