I get what you mean - circumstances and intent are always going to come into play in any criminal prosecution - I just think that the laws in this case are rather out of proportion to the crime commited. And if you really believe that all of the wealthy executives out there who are evading taxes, cheating their employees, and fleecing their investors are being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, you must be living on another planet. There have been a handful of people who have been made examples of, but on the whole those types of criminals rarely ever pay for their crimes. Just look at Enron... Bear Sterns... AIG... etc, etc, etc. Thousands of lives destroyed and most of those responsible are still living high off the hog. Madoff was an exception - he didn't have a corporate machine to hide behind, he was just an independent scam artist who happened to be operating on a mega-large scale.
Burress' mistake was primarily stupidity. He refused to plea bargain with the DA early on. Likely he would have walked away with a much shorter sentence, but he insisted on going before a grand jury and they basically showed how stupid he really was.
Burres will be locked up for at least 20 months, so he?s not even a consideration for the Jets. Retarded Millionaire! Im actually glad he gets jail time. If he had gotten off with supervised probation or some other weak sentence I would really question the Justice system for people with money Vs. those who have none!
He got what he deserved!! His former teamates were like he got to much time and said a man of his magnitude shouldnt be sentenced so long.. so which says us mere mortals the average joe blow deserve to go to jail for 3 1/2 minimum when we get caught with a gun but the superstars should walk.. Unbelievable
Buress was stupid not to take the 6 months sentance that was offered him last winter. He would have served his jail time and playing football now.
