Mangold and Colon were out, what kind of performance were you exactly expecting from the O-Line? It is time for Cro to sit though. He's pathetic.
I have noticed this as well. And because of it, it's affected my activity on this board. Now by no means am I a notorious poster, but I lurk everyday multiple times and do post on things I can contribute to. It's a bookmark/top site on both my phone and laptop. But I've noticed a real high level of pessimism despite our positive record. It seems all people want to do is look at the negatives. This board has been so much fun in the recent past but just lately somethings been a bit off. I mean, what happened to those weekly look alike threads? I think I've seen one or two all season with little participation. It's little things like that that show proof. We should all lighten up, guys. We're in a solid spot for the playoffs with a good team when healthy. Our present team is bright and our future appears to be brighter if offseason moves are handled correctly.
We have a head coach that coaches scared and is terrible at clock management, a team ravaged by injuries, and the team has played like crap for the last 9 quarters. What exactly are you expecting during this bad little stretch? Rah Rah, this team is great? Moral victory speeches? This team is by no means a solid shot for the playoffs until they beat Buffalo. They still have the Bills 2x, Pats, Giants, and Cowboys with Romo coming up later. They can easily lose all 5 of those games with sub par play that have shown in the last 9 quarters.
You know what kills me? The whinny hypocrite who starts a thread crying about other people whining. If you don't like it then get lost. We have the right to state our opinion, you whinny hypocritical little bitch.
I haven't posted in a while because of this. The quality of posts has severely gone down over the last couple years.
I'm not sure what you were watching the past few weeks / month but the O-Line hasn't done shit with or without Colon and Mangold in the lineup. Wesley Johnson did just fine, he's not the issue. Neither is Winters. It's the blocking scheme itself that defenses have "figured out". We do the same thing over and over again and it doesn't work anymore. D-Lines are now crashing to either side and our O-Line can't handle it. It's not the same generic 1 on 1 matchups we saw early in the year, the O-Line just looks confused and doesn't even know who to block. That's the only reasonable explanation why you have 2-3-4 linemen hitting Ivory in the backfield almost every time he gets the ball. Don't try to explain all this by saying it's because Colon was out. The guy is garbage, hardly an upgrade over Winters at this point. They have to fix the O-Line and the scheme, how they attack and block. It's the same way offenses have figured out our defense. They don't just suddenly suck, it's just that offenses now have seen what works against us (stretch runs instead of running up the middle), getting the ball out quick and exploit the blitzes and so on. The defense adjusted, let's see if the offense now can adjust and get this running game fixed.
Good post. Also: if you're just talking about players, there are way more questions going into next season than this one. This season was basically a free roll.
I just read two posts I really like by whysoserious and jstokes on the previous page. The first one said we kind of suck. The second one said we should be enjoying and rooting for our sucky team. Why the anger, guys? You're talking about two entirely different things that are both fun to talk about. That we suck -- relative to our record -- is pretty obvious and fun (and arguably important) to acknowledge and dissect. That we're all rooting for the Jets to win anyway is equally obvious and important. We're all of us rooting like crazy and we're all of us likewise discerning critics who crave perfection and won't suffer mediocrity. Hell's the problem? If you're going to argue, choose apples or oranges.
To those of you complaining about the Raiders game you do realize that is a pretty good team this year right? We always struggle going out there. Hell they almost beat the Steelers at home yesterday something the shitty Raiders would never have done. As for yesterday it wasn't a great performance but if we hadn't decided to play prevent to win defense on that last Jacksonville drive this would have been a 2 score win and I think a lot of the bitching would have subsided.
Most of my frustration is due to a few things. One, that Cromartie allows that TD before the half, and two, that the D allowed the Jags to score on 3 plays, we get the on sides kick, and still give the Jags an opportunity to get the ball back again. Yes we won, but quality teams don't allow those things to happen, and I'm sure we all want a "quality team".
Here's what has finally dawned on me. First: Todd Bowles doesn't care about scores...meaning, he isn't about running up the scores on opponents. This also means he is guilty of using the dreaded prevent defense and not taking every opportunity to score. At least that is my personal (horrified) observation. And Second: Emotion...or lack thereof. I like Todd's "even keel" but there's a time for sideline explosions and that time has come and gone. In game emotion is vital and necessary...and conspicuously lacking with this team. If one of Parcels' teams had given up a three play drive all hell would have broken lose. Just a simple observation or two.
That falls on Gailey, and IMO if the running game is this bad with the type of runningback we have, he should just be fired. The passing game IS good, but honestly Decker and Marshall are the ones out there making the plays. The running game is still part of this team's identity and getting shut down like that is not acceptable at all.
Jets fans can be very quick to hit the oh shit button. OP is 100% right. We aren't the only team that loses games to teams we should beat. It happens to basically every single NFL team. It's not unique to the Jets or a SOJ symptom. The Jets are doing just fine. Defense is playing well on the whole, our offense is productive on the whole, and we are winning more than we are losing. Time to beat BUFF.
