THIS^^^^^^^^ TONS OF ROLES, even some CB in extreme situations. Could not agree more. He does put the ball on the ground more than we would like, but that is something that can be fixed. People are constantly overreacting around here.
Someone hit the nail on the head when they said "inconsistent." He's one of the most inconsistent guys around. I bet next game he'll have a really solid showing, not best on the field or anything but no fumbles, good yardage some great returns, etc.
Is this the wrong time to mention we kept him over Woodhead after we traded Leon? Hoping McKnight contributes this year, he has the talent and we need offense from anyone who can bring it.
in the pre-season, westhoff tells the kick returners to bring it out pretty much no matter what ... he said this multiple times on hard knocks
He's had a pretty bad pre-season. Fumbles. Runs for no gains. But sometimes he wows you. Like the previous poster said; it's a coin flip with what you'll get.
Stats. If there's any hype involved it's McKnight, it's always how great he could be if he cared. Woodhead does his job and you know he will do his job every time, even if he isn't as talented as McKnight.
I like Conner a lot as a blocker, but he is useless as a running option. I did kind of shit myself when he made that fingertip catch, though.
leading the league in KR avg is not hype he also forced a fumble that led to a turnover on ST, had a pressure from CB that led to an INT returned for a touchdown, and blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown mcknight had a better season and is a better player than woodhead ... get over it
He was a leading Kick returner. He had a blocked punt. Thats more than enough for a 4th or 5th round pick.
He's made some nice plays and has more talent, I'm not arguing that. You may have noticed that whoever returns kickoffs for the Jets under Westhoff tends to lead the NFL so you can't go too crazy about that. My point is that Woodhead is a pro who goes in and does his job, contributing to wins, which is often more important. It's not about "getting over it", the fact is in my opinion we kept the wrong guy, as least so far. Not as bad as drafting Marino over O'Brien but annoying still, as Woohead went to a division rival we still can't overtake.
so youre implying that mcknight is not a pro, doesnt do his job, and doesnt contribute to wins? we dont win the cowboys game without mcknight and he almost single handedly kept us in the baltimore game ... yes kick returners often do well under westhoff, but he had the highest KR avg is jets history and consistently set up an offense that struggled to move the ball in between the 20s with excellent field position but woodheads 500 yards from scrimmage, suspect pass pro, and weak special teams play did so much to contribute to the pats success
Not as much as he should, given the talent he has, that's exactly what I'm saying. He has made plays, yes, good, he's been here three years. How is he third on the depth chart at this point in his career with the lack of talent we have at RB?
he hasnt been here three years, last year was his second year ... and what makes mcknight a talent is his versatility, hes not a world beater as a RB from all accounts, hes been working his ass off ... http://www.metro.us/newyork/sports/article/1148520--jets-mcknight-in-shape-for-backfield-competition
I hope you're right, he's a Jet, we're going to need all the help we can get on O. If last year was his second year, this year is his third, no? Third camp, third season?
true indeed, we def need him to step fair enough, but you said, "He has made plays, yes, good, he's been here three years." ... my point was he hasnt had three years to make plays
You were including his blocked punt from the other night, which is year three. Either way, I hope he turns into a big player, the opportunity is there for him, on specials and on the offense. There is no more LT in his way and who knows if Shonn Green was a mirage or if McKnight can pass him too. Or Powell, I don't really care who, someone needs to step up.
