by the way, by by alex smith comment I only meant that it would be acceptable to see Geno playing like Alex in his second year, bit for him to go down the same career path. just to clarify.
Alex Smith in his second year was 58% for 180 yards a game and 16 TDs and 16 INTs. You'd be good with that? _
I think i phrased that incorrectly now that i look back at that post, so I apologize. If 2014 Geno Smith= 2013 Alex Smith, then he'll be a starter beyond 2014, at least. that was my point, if he achieves that kind of play then we're good, probably playoff bound if theres marginal improvements elsewhere.
I would be thrilled with 2013 Alex Smith stats. Only problem I have with the Alex Smith hopes is that Alex Smith will never be a QB that other teams fear. I want teams to fear playing Geno. Opposing teams gameplan hard and fear our D. To have a little of that on offense would be amazing.
It still is amazing the Jets won 8 games last year. Mind blowing, really. Add on the fact they beat the Patriots and Saints? Wow.
Lol.. He improved when Kerley came back.. thats a fucked up coincidence though for Hill if that happened at the same time lol.
So you want Geno to be Alex Smith circa 2013 in order to keep his job. The year he made the pro bowl. That's funny. _
IF Geno starts he'll be on a short leash. 4 games maybe. The fact we're facing some high powered offenses early is actually a plus for Geno. It means he'll be playing from behind and will have plenty of ops to throw the long ball, his wheel house. Rex likes talking about the season in 1/4'rs. I can see Geno getting the first 1/4 to sink or swim. The hard part will be if Geno is playing not great but not terrible either. If we're 1-3 they may switch to Vick. 3-1 they may stay with Geno a bit longer but they won't let the season slip away while Geno 'develops'.
If you look at the list there are a lot of decent QBs in the NFL. Its all about consistency. I'm not sure what that article says, but I can tell you that Geno isn't a bust on the level of Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Jamarcus Russell, Blaine Gabbert, etc... Those guys simply couldn't play in the league. Geno can definitely play, but whether or not he can be consistent will be the key question.
No fucking shit. Don't think people truly grasp how terrible our offense really was. The fact that it was a real OC and not Sparano masked a lot of it and also people just look at the record and choose to remember the fleeting good moments instead of the consistently bad ones.
he sucks. happy feet, looks like he's just a bit behind, questionable decision making. imo he looks scared all the time.
"In the final four games, Smith’s stat line was 68/116 (58%), 790 yards (197.5 per game), 4 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, 186 rushing yards (46.5 per game) and 3 rushing touchdowns. For those who follow Pro Football Focus, they dropped this tidbit yesterday: Just for fun - if Geno Smith played the first 3 months of the season the way he played the last his +28.8 PFF grade would trail only Manning" But don't let facts get in the way from a moronic response
Id guess when some people look at Geno's last 4 games they see the opponents and also that the Jets were pretty much out of it and take something away from his stats. Like he was only good because the pressure was off and the opposition was weak.
Just for fun, if Geno Smith played the whole year like he did in that 4 game stretch in the middle, his grade would trail only that of a QB from a kids pee wee team. You know, that stretch when he couldn't complete double digit passes? If you think he played WELL in those last 4 games then you have a very low bar for what "well" means. Yes, lets just look at a "rating" to determine how well he played. No, he did not play well. He just didn't play as awful as he did the rest of the year. I am so sick and tired of hearing how great he played the last 4 games, like he lit the league on fire. 64%, 53.6%, 55.6%, 63%. Under 59% over those games. 219, 167, 214, 190. That's 198 yards a game. What he did do was protect the ball and flopped his INTs to TDs. That's not great, that's not well. That's marginal. Yet he was almost as great as Peyton Manning. Talk about moronic. _
I wasn't aware having the 2nd best QB grade the last 4 weeks of the season was considered marginal. Don't forget his rushing yards and TDs. You know those count, right? You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
Again, you may think having a high rating means he was better than he was--throwing for under 60% and less than 200 yards a game is marginal. The bright spot was his ability to protect the ball. But that was because the offense went into protect mode for him. But you take comfort in QB rating. _
