This is the classic reverse analysis of the case: because there are QB's that can make all the throws and still not win it is not required to be able to make all the throws. Of course the answer is that you need to be able to make all the throws and also not be deficient in the areas that Grossman (read ability) and Leaf (gross maturity) are/were not. The fact is that Chad's deficiency is a visible one unlike some other QB's. That should make it easier to make the change than if it wasn't. Lovie Smith obviously agonized over whether or not Grossman's inability to make fast reads under pressure could be improved to go with his arm. The Chargers spent two years trying very hard to help Ryan Leaf grow up to go with his arm. The Jets? Chad cannot make the throws needed. Period. Time to make a change.
u said u need a qb to make all the throws to win. chad cant make all the throws, he has been a winner before
He's got the receivers. Doesn't have a great offensive line, though they've done a good job with pass protection lately, and he doesn't have a great running game. But neither of those things are unique to him, all QB's either want or need that.
why couldnt they pay an extra million to keep pete kendall around, they are just cheap, it could have changed alot imo
How Many times does a defense have to see a reciever run a 10 yard out route only to have to come back to the ball! or a looping Rainbow thats basically a jump ball in the endzone. (We are lucky some of thise have come down in a Jets hands. We have extreamly good recievers that dont get fed the ball the way they should . Cole is still a burner and crotchery is also an explosive Wide out that would fare much better running after a ball rather then coming back to it because its thrown 7 yards
No offense ihate...I have read where you stand on all of this so I know its not blind love. With that said, why is that defenders have to always throw out there some of the real horrible qbs to make their case? There are some good qb's that can make all the throws too. There are some average ones too. To combat that argument....there are some horrible qb's that are "winners" and have won superbowls. There have been a decent amount of qb's that have winning records because their team was loaded on defense...and they just needed to be protective qb's...dont make mistakes. No...I dont want Ryan Leaf..or Rex Grossman. I just want a qb that can throw the ball without his receivers having to do the following: A. Jump in the air and grab the ball out of defenders hands to catch a touchdown or even a simple out pattern. B. Get a ball to a receiver so that he actually might have time to turn and make a move..instead of getting slaughtered like a roped cow and thrown to the ground. C. Be able to overthrow a receiver deep.....ON PURPOSE. D. Be able to run a playaction pass without the defense laughing and saying "and? now what are you going to do with it..throw it over my head..haha". I dont really think thats asking a lot..and there are more qb's then Ryan Leaf and Rex Grossman that could do that.
People keep saying we have no running game. We have no running because Chad can't make the throws so the opposition loads the box. That's why we have no running game. The only way around that is to have a QB burn them a few times so that they have to protect againts the longer passes. Chad can't do that anymore so it has to be by bye Chad.
Dude...really!? I'm not even specifically sticking up for Thomas Jones; but let's put this into perspective here. We have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, both viable options for the run and pass, with a line that gets pushed back, excluding Mangold, and pounced on because they have no fear of the deep ball. Think about it like this; Kellen Clemens comes in and throws 30 yard seams to Coles, Cotchery, and Smith (phuck McCariens). You now have a D's secondary that has to account for both sides of the field, with help from the safeties. With Chad in the game, you can put 8 in the box, drop back one or two to cover our bullshit jet screens that cater to Chad and keep man coverage on our receivers because they know the throw isn't going far and hard, while having safeties jump routes at times since they have 30 seconds to react to a pass coming from the 23 yard line (enter Aaron Ross). Our game plan and threat is greatly put into question because we have no mid to deep ball threat. Pennington does have positives. The throw to Coles to the sideline was great and the pass to Smith was perfect, but those were floaters that only those guys can catch and it's nice when needed, but that's all Chad has.
Not defending Chad's bonehead plays, but this is not true. The last two weeks Chad has had completions downfield 6 or 7 times. He hit Coles twice and Baker once on Sunday. Week before he hit Cotch twice and Coles ones. All 15-20 yard plays, and almost every single time the next play was a run up the middle for no gain or a loss. They just have terrible run blockers. Worst in the league. They need some bigger linemen. Road graders, as they say.
Also agree, you can compare CP to a 4th or 5th starter pitcher. They need to make the perfect pitch or else they are going to get tatooed. Same with Chad. He can't make all the throws and this causes defenses to cheat at the line. Time for a change
the thing is, i want kellen to start, i want the future now, i think chad is a great guy, a good role model ect, i dont like to hear him get bashed bbc he is such a great guy, however i am a jet fan first, that is a far first too, i root for the team, not the players, the leaf/grossman example i will admit was prolly pretty stupid now that i think about it so excuse me for that, the point is that an average arm doesn't always mean no success, drew brees doesn't have a rocket, but he almost won mvp last year, i know he is sucking this yr but that is besides the point, the fact of the matter is that we need to put kellen in to see what he's got, then we can discuss this matter more educated, instead of arguing like a bunch of monkeys
Chad has made some bad throws, and some bad decisions, but it isn't all on him, not by a long shot. It's on the FO and CS for not drafting any O linemen that can run block, it's on the defense for it's complete inability to make tackles in the running game, and the game plans are looking more and more like Herm Edwards is still the HC. Teams haven't been putting 8 in the box. The standard front 7 can stop our run offense. Yes, the safeties are playing up, but not in run support, it's to jump routes. The short stuff won't work anymore, teams are ready to defend it. You have a simplistic somewhat uneducated opinion here. Clemens can't fix the run blocking, nor will he help the run defense. Our linemen suck on both sides of the ball.
i agree with u, penny def deserves blame, a good amount at that, but to say he is the reason we cant win is ludacris, kellen cant play defense, u hit the nail on the head t-bird, great post
