It would be fun to see some of the youngsters light it up and make Bowles' decisions on who makes the roster really tough. The only thing I really care about, is no major injuries!
Eli..Pick 6 by Cro. Vagiants D...Give up a 20 yard screen play TD. and a PR for a TD, after an almost Safety Humiliation on all 3 sides of the ball. Good.
Thanks NC. Hopefully we got our wish. A little worried about Williams injury though. Overall a good showing by the Jets across the board
Was at the game and they looked decent in all phases - no more decker on punt return I heard Williams hurt? Please no
Thankfully the negatives that came out of this game were few: DeMario Davis Calvin Pryor Eric Decker on punt returns - please don't do this again. Leonard hurt.
Oh yeah My boy Demario had a bad one 2 flags and poor missed tackle that I saw- I think all 3 happened in one drive Ouch
You are mistaken. Rex was still infallible during the 2013 preseason. Like the Pope. It had to be someone else.
The purpose of a scrimmage is to see who can't play. That's all they are useful for. Some guys cannot play at this level and it will show more at full speed than in practice. Unfortunately, injuries happen too often during these exhibitions.
Only two bad things happened tonight...Williams knee (although, it doesn't look like it will turn out to be too bad...he left the field on his own power with no discernible limp.) And, Eric Decker needs to retire as the punt returner. Overall a pretty decent performance for a pre-season game 3.
.....and they delivered! Fantastic showing from the ones. Chromartie especially! Holy Shit is he fast or what!? I swear, when he took off with that pick six he left Back to the Future delorean flames. One more thing: I'm digging Todd Bowles. The man is stoic and serious about this team in the best way.
What a difference a year makes lol we got a special teams TD and a pick six !! anyone remember a decent punt return ? Powell will make the team as WR thx to his special teams contributions... we conserved timeouts eh had em all in the second quarter what a concept. Instead of throwing INT we were causing turnovers it felt nice... Not seeing Kyle Wilson give up a 1st on 3rd and long was a breath of fresh air...
Getting the bad out of the way first: Demario Davis, Calvin Pryor and Marcus Williams have been underwhelming this preseason, not just last night. Folk's missed PAT: While Belichick pushed for it because it was "automatic," it's probably also because he's got one of the best if not the best place kicker in Stephen Gotkowski who only went 35-37 on FGs in 2014, a 96.4% average. Folk's PAT miss: an anomaly. Last year's preseason when they experimented with the 15 yard line of scrimmage (a 32-33 yd. kick), 94.3% of extra point kicks were made and that included some snappers, holders, blockers (and kickers) who didn't end up on the final roster. During the regular season, according to PFF, place kickers made 97.6% of FGs between 30-35 yards. The only time this new rule change might come into play would be late in the season where the cold/wind 'elements' have a greater effect on kicks. And on the face of it, you'd think this would put cold weather teams who play outdoors at a disadvantage, however in the case of rule change advocate (Belichick) NE has the Gotkowski advantage. Getting up on soapbox: beyond the place kickers, who this really affects is the offensive linemen and blocking tight ends. Ask any OL or blocking TE which play sucks the most and they'll tell you FGs because they have to "stay home" and get teed off on. Couple that with the fact that the defense can score two points for a blocked kick returned to the endzone (an added incentive) plus the added unlikelihood of faking a kick from the 15-yard line and that translates to defenses being able to bring the house with an even more incentive-based rush, in short: the OL/TEs will even more end up as sitting ducks and who will be more prone to injury. And it's for that reason alone why I'm (humbly) playing devil's advocate against this rule change, "excitement" notwithstanding….that plus the fact that anything Belichick's for, I'm against. Good: WRs (though the NYG's secondary is crap) and RBs (and running game overall) looked good. Watching Richardson manhandle the Giant scrub OLs in the 4th qtr. was bittersweet amusing (you should be playing in 2 weeks Sparky). Rontez Miles: who isn't rooting for this kid? Leonard Williams (fingers crossed) apparently just a bone bruise and not ligament-related. Only one preseason game to go - play The Flight Crew and go into the season opener against the Brownies with as many able bodies as possible. LGJ.
