the team also claimed to have wanted Kapernick - thing is anyone can claim after the event and after someone has had success that they "were" going to draft them - this team has never been able to draft a top tier QB.

I am going to remain cautiously optimistic that Idzik is on top of things. Let's just hope he's the wolf sent here to clean up the mess.

A good GM will solicit opinions from everyone (HC, scouts, etc.). However when the decision needs to be made, I want the GM, and solely the GM, making the decision.

Bradway takes a lot of flack from the fans and the media, but I feel like he's always advocated really solid players (at least from what I've read), like Revis, Wilson, Kap. I remember reading he strongly advised against picking Gholston too. This isn't to say he's a genius of any kind, but I think he's more valuable than some of us believe.

Maybe Tanny never listened to him enough?

Terry Bradway has a history as the GM also. It's fairly similar to the history that the Jets have had since he became a personnel guru.

Trade up, take tools guys over production in many cases, stay too long with a bad draft pick instead of cutting your losses.

One interesting note about the Bucs in the late 90's is that they really valued college production over upside potential. That'll be something to watch tonight. If the Jets do go for Barkevious Mingo, well that's not a production pick. If they go for Jarvis Jones it is a production pick. I'm guessing they go for neither though and we're left wondering on potential vs production.

I would add Pennington, not that I want to kick off another interminable debate!

Increasing chatter of SF coming up into top 15. 49ers looking to strengthen an already tough defense.

If we are really trying to trade down and with all of the picks they have this would seem to be the perfect trade partner.

10 to 1 the Jets trade down with at least one of their picks, and possibly both.

I only want to trade back if we get the proper value. Let's not trade back just so we have more picks. Let's get quality picks.

Can't fix this team in one draft.

If O'brien had been in any other draft where he wasn't selected ahead of Marino Jets fans would think a lot higher of him than they do. But give him this, he had a winning record against Marino and didnt play on as talented of a team. Still, 1 player of the year award, 2 or 3 probowls in a 10 year career aint bad. Imagine if he'd had an offensive line.

In fact I'll go one further, I'll predict the Jets and 49er's make a deal for the #13 pick in the draft. and I'll put it at 50/50 that either the Rams or the Vikings also move up, though it may or may not be with the Jets.

I think you have pretty much convinced me on Jones. I see Mingo as Maybin-ish. Bigger, of course. Jones from what I have seen on You tube is a roughneck. He is a physical guy and I like that. Also causes a lot of fumbles. I also like Terrell Suggs very much. And everybody compares the two. Of course, the Jets might be leery of the stenosis even if he is cleared. That is, if they are obsessed with a safe pick.

We'll see what the Jets do. I'm hoping they can trade at least one of the picks down and that they spend the other pick in a way that doesn't leave us wondering if the guy is good headed into training camp. "Prove it" picks have had a way of letting us down lately.

I trust Idzik will have a real good feel as to what proper value is in order to trade down. I dont want to get scrwed by SF, the Vikings, Rams or anybody else.
If we stay pat lets make the best of it, and a pro bowl OT/OG, if he so chooses at 13th, is by no means a bad pick non withstanding traditional thinking.
If Jordan is available at 9 its a no brainer, anything else could be subject to trade.
If we go WR/TE with first 2 picks I would be happy as well. Lots of choices.

I think you are right on there. I feel he was overruled by Tanny and Rex. Something that is not going to happen with the new GM.
For those that thought Rex would still pull the strings on the Jets with a "non football" GM, well it did not take long to see he is not pulling shit with Idzik. Our new GM runs the show.

    BOOM!

    From Twitter:

I'm extremely encouraged by this day one. I love the idea of taking the most impactful players. Don't try and directly fix what the prior regime effed up, just get the best possible talent and things will take care of themselves much more quickly and thoroughly.
