Haha. Nice one. I hope that changes one day. But seriously this defense is built around the idea you can use cheap zone corners and spend your money and premium picks on DL. The FO just signed a corner and safety that both played substantially better in zone coverage seeming to confirm their commitment to using cheaper zone corners. So yes, I would be surprised to see them invest a premium 1st rounder on a corner. But, never say never. Saleh, said if a unicorn exists then things change although Saleh's example was he believes a team should never consider using a 1st on a LB unless they are a unicorn.
This off season I went from: You people who think we’re taking a DB are crazy, we need a DE and DB isn’t valued in this D To You people who think we’re taking a OT are crazy, the DEs are deep, let’s take Sauce aka bpa at 4 To I really feel like we need to go OT at 4 every other position is deep enough to withstand injury.
WR is a premium position is every O but the Shanahan system seems to value WR less than other systems. Just like a lock down corner is a premium in every D but the Saleh system seems to value CB less than other systems.
I don't know about that first part. Since Kyle Shanahan became 49ers coach 5 years ago they've used a first round pick, two second round picks, and a third round pick on WRs. They've drafted 7 WRs total since he took over. We've drafted 4 WRs in that same timeframe, and none in the first round.
Thank you!!! I forgot Ayuk was a 1st. I keep thinking he’s a 2nd. Has any Shanahan team drafted any other WR in the 1st?
Speaking of dream scenarios, how's this: Buzz is picking up that the Jags are taking Walker, Lions are taking KT, and the Texans are taking Stingley, which would leave Hutch for us. Highly doubt it plays out like that but the betting odds aren't too far off on that happening.
Assuming no trades I'd be jacked up if we ended with with Sauce, Jermaine, Christian Watson and Brisker with the first 4. First post for me. Been reading ganggreen for years. Didn't know there was a message board!
man, you’re one of the most bizarre cases around these parts. edit: unless this is actually somehow a different StevieD, in which case, welcome!
Rumor is they like him more but who knows If not for injuries he may have been the 1 overall prospect
Is there some wild story about a StevieD? Makes me nervous I can on here drunk sometime and did something stupid lol
It would be shocking if the Lions passed up Hutch if he is there. Guy has played within 100 miles of Detroit his entire career and is arguably the best prospect and at a position of need for them. I don't know that he is the best pick for them but I do know that if they passed on him and he turned into a major star they might as well move across the river to Windsor.
For me, it’s edge or OT I doubt we go CB at 4…just doesn’t seem like we value that position and they like the kids we have already. I’m not feeling sauce at 4. all the talk about OT being a bad idea is crazy to me…I guess it comes down to how much trust we have in Becton. For me, not much. Too many games missed with nagging injuries in year 1 and then all year for an injury that should have been half a year. Out of shape. Just doesn’t scream mature professional who has passion for the game…could be I’m wrong and who knows with injuries, but it just doesn’t feel right. I would in no way feel comfortable having to rely on Becton to stay healthy. I think OT is a huge risk that needs to be addressed, and if I’m wrong great…we’d have 3 very good OTs. I also am not buying all this noise about Hutchinson slipping to 4 but if he does that’s the pick.
Today I have those sinking game day jitters but there's no game heh.....anyone else??? I have Giants Eagles and Raider fans in my family so I want to have some Jets pride come Friday AM Here we go...
